Forum Tags - The Basics

Tags are the new way of classifying topics, having replaced categories and sub-categories.

Q. What is a tag?
A. A lower case word or acronym usually representing something weather related on this forum. They are applied to topics rather than posts.

Q. Is there a list of tags?
A. Yes. Look for “All Tags” in the side bar or visit this URL.

Q. Where can I see the tags for a topic?
A. in the category list the tags are displayed below the topic title, e.g.

The first topic has tags “weather-stations” and “faq”. The second topic has tags “wd”, “wd-linux”, “raspberry-pi” and “faq”.

Q. How many tags can a topic have?
A. At least one and up to five. The upper limit may change in future.

Q. How do I add a tag to a new topic I want to post?
A. Start creating the topic as normal.

You will see the tag field to the right of the category name. It will probably say “select at least 1 tag”. Click the ‘+’ at the right end of the tag field to display the tag entry menu…

As you start to type in “Search or create…” you will see tags that contain the characters you’ve entered. When you find the tag you want, either highlight it and press Enter or click on it with your mouse.

To add more tags to the topic, click ‘+’ again and repeat the search process. When you’ve entered at least one tag you can continue typing and saving the message as normal.
