Forecast Icon

Hi all,

I have an Oregon WMR928N and am going to buy WD. But I have a problem with the Forecast Icon: it does not show what the station is presenting on the LCD screen. The Metar icon is instead accurate.
I have unsuccesfully tried many different parameters setup.

Should the expected behaviour be that WD use the Forecast icon of the station to set the icon in the Summary?

The page I am working on is at:

http://www.theprez.it/Meteo/Roma-Marconi.html

Thanks in advance,

Alex

hi
there are lots of different setups, yes
but if you have ticked to use the forecast icon from the wmr918, then that should work…
but if it doesnt, then either its been over written by another setting, or i dont have it working correct witht he 968 type station, and I would have to add some debug code to show the raw values to see why not…
persoaly, i dont know why people would even want to rely on that forecast, LOL!

Thanks for your reply, since I am really new to this product please suggest which forecast source should I rely on to change that icon.

Ciao,

Alex

You could use LIRF (ROME/FIUMICINO) Metar station ID, under Metar download.

See http://www.tokaanuskihire.co.nz/wdhelp/getmetar.shtml

Thanks but I want the Forecast not the current condition… I am going crazy… I had for a while the right icon (from the station = Rain.gif) but after some configuration change to get the proper icon on the Metars it desappeared and only the mainlyfine.gif icon is visible now, no way to change it.
Now I have 2 Metar selected LIRF and LIRA, each one with his own current weather icon… that’s ok. I just want that the Forecast icon on the Summary.gif reports the icon presented on the station… for some reason  it demonstrated to be quite realiable in the range of 6-12 hours, I could not find any combination of parameters to do that… also the correlation among parameters is not clear at all very often… So to summarize in this moment I have: LIRF cloudynight.gif, LIRA nightovercast.gif, Forecst on Summary mainlyfine.gif, icon on the application panel clearnight.gif. What should the latter icon report? Forecast or current status?

Last question, is it possible to have both the metars LIRA and LIRF on the web page just playing with options?

Any further suggestion would be greatly appreciated, the trial will expires in 2 weeks…

Thanks in advance,

Alex

It seems that the new release fixed the problem. Now I can see the right icon from the station forecast steady on the summary.gif
On the other hand now I can not see more metars gif in the same time, and there is some problem on which one is shown and which one is selected from the list in the Metar configuration screen as reference.

With the old release I have also seen 3 recursive problem to be confirmed with the new one:

  1. some time WD uploads some files in the main directory of the website, not in the subdirectory configured to host the files

  2. sometime WD stopped to upload summary.gif and metar while all other file are ok, so that on the web all data are new beside the summary and the metar. I am trying to understand if it was related to lack of space on the website

  3. sometime, after reboot of PC, WD does not receive data from the station at all. I have to restart the program several time, or the PC, or change the selected COM port and come back to COM1 to restablish data receiption.

I will post other news,

Alex

hi
the metars not showing up (the images) when you click on the main screen icon has gone wrong after I changed something…
I will try and fix…it has affected me as well…

re directory:
not sure…but keep an eye on the ftplogfull.txt file as it logs in to see if an error in the changing of the directory after it logs in

reboot:
thats strange…but any error under view, program error log?

re the forecast icon:
ok, i will try and mimick having this station type (i dont have a wmr968 here)

i haved fixed the introduced bug of the metar imagers not beging displayed
uploading 9.93d

i have redone the whole routine of using the forrecast from the station
9.93d, a new one, should be better

Thanks a lot Brian, the icon management seems stabilizing and the second Metar is now displayed clicking on the icon in the main screen, but there is still something strange, I had the correct situation for an hour or two (forecast sunny.gif on the summary.gif and main screen, partially cloudy on both metar), then the forecast icons changed to an icon that is not in the directories: the backgroung of rain.gif. Moreover just clicking on the icon in the main screen the icon sometime changes as well as thhat one in the summary.gif, sometime they are different. I am also a developer of a internet distrubuted sw so I can understand the difficulty to receive clear reports of problems and bugs. My station is WMR928N. Please, some clarifications:

  1. “Summary Image on web page / weather icons setup”

a) Parameter “Use WMR918/…” and “Show WMR918/…”. Which different icons refer to? Is it correct the first on on the main windows, the latter on the summary.gif only?

b) “Icon update by downloaded Metar setup”. Which icon? That one on the main screen, on the summary.gif or on the selected metar itself?

c) “use coded instead of decoded”. What does it mean this parameter?

d) “include extra weather…”. Which extra conditions? Include where?

e) “but leave the icon…”. See question in b)

f) “Your station rain/fog…”. When this action should occur exactly? Overrides the Metar in which sense? The icon? Which icon?

I believe all the options I can manage icons are above.

  1. How can I upload and show more metars in the web page?

  2. In general may you clarify how the icons are supposed to work, how are they generated/calculated, their meaning, considering:

  3. the forecast icon shown on the station’s display

  4. the icons shown by WD in the Metar pop-ups or metar.gif

  5. the icon in the main screen

Thanks a lot for your effort,

Alex

Just for complete the info, this is the page:

If you want I can prepare screenshot of my WD running.

  1. “Summary Image on web page / weather icons setup”

a) Parameter “Use WMR918/…” and “Show WMR918/…”. Which different icons refer to? Is it correct the first on on the main windows, the latter on the summary.gif only?

yes

b) “Icon update by downloaded Metar setup”. Which icon? That one on the main screen, on the summary.gif or on the selected metar itself?

at this stage, both main screen and summary image, unless you have teh station icon to update the summary image…

c) “use coded instead of decoded”. What does it mean this parameter?
Metars have weather codes…and sometimes it can be usefull to use those instead, especuialy for things like ice, etc.Normaly though use decoded (i.e wd uses the word descriptions)

d) “include extra weather…”. Which extra conditions? Include where?
The extra weather parameters in the metar, like thunderstorms observerd, etc, are included in the metar.gif and on the summary image too

e) “but leave the icon…”. See question in b)
applies to the summary image icon, not the metar.gif icon

f) “Your station rain/fog…”. When this action should occur exactly? Overrides the Metar in which sense? The icon? Which icon?

there is a fog setting in the summary image setup…so if you have reached those fog settings, then the icon on the summary image will then show the fog (but not the metar.gif, that applies to the metar only)
same applies to rain: i.e you may have rain, but the metar does not report rain (and i see now some metars now reports rain last hour, so I need to check that /add that info)

I believe all the options I can manage icons are above.

  1. How can I upload and show more metars in the web page?

I will add that feature
vers 9.93e, there is now a select list in the 3rd metar image to update from your downloaded metar list…

  1. In general may you clarify how the icons are supposed to work, how are they generated/calculated, their meaning, considering:

  2. the forecast icon shown on the station’s display

  3. the icons shown by WD in the Metar pop-ups or metar.gif

  4. the icon in the main screen
