Hi all,
Have something more than 5 minutes on my hands - in fact - all today, maybe tomorrow - and i finally want to get into using the customized web page / web authoring tools windy made available a couple of releases ago. I’ve drawn on paper an outline of what I want, where, etc, and have printed off the variables names list for reference.
Now, my past experience is that I’m my own worst enemy, but we won’t go there… What i want to do is install WD 10.30j on a second machine where I can happily work with no fear of destroying what I already have. When I’ve developed most of what I want, I’d like to move it to my weather server, and do the final tweaking there.
Is this a) a good approach? b) do-able? c)adviseable? or am I looking down a murky road?
or
install to a another directory on the same pc
then create a file their called 2wd.txt or 3wd.txt
and then run from there and then it will be like a brand new separate verison, with its own data and settings, on the same pc, you can use for testing, etc,and if you set it clientmode, and the other to server mode, then it will get live data even
You can do it on a different networked machine if you want - that is what I did.
Install WD on the other machine, and set it up as the “client” - also set up you main machine as the “server”. Then it is easy to just copy over the files you want to.
Or, as Windy says, you can do it all on the same machine.
(A Man’s) Life doesn’t always work to plan. 2 days of playtime and nada accomplished… SWMBO had a list… So now the windows are washed, the junk is piled, the storage shed is repacked, the lawns are mowed…
Question for all — If you select the ‘custom web page’ options, you get a list on the right hand side of all WD’s variables. Is there a file that contains these that I can print off to use as a reference as I do my thing? I thought I had one already; damned if I know where it is if that’s the case.
aside – Son just called from new (lt 2wks) home in the Phoenix AZ area, just squashed the 3rd scorpion he found in his garage… Me? - I think I’ll stick with pending earthquakes for now.
yes, the file is called, owntemplate.txt
also you can use , control panel, create/edit my own custom file
and follow the instructions there to use the custom tags
or even use the WYSIWUG html editor…my web page is built using that:
okay, getting organized… 2 Questions on the WYSIWYG editor…
1 - is there a multilayer undo function?
2 - If saved and exited, can I pick it up later to finish? Will it allow edits later in time, like if I discover I want to do things a little different, perhaps?
