I’ve developed a problem in the last day or so. I have been trying to get the SVG update page to work but in doing so, I seems I may have kludged the main WDisplay Program.
WD starts but instead of the title bar saying registered - Comm Port OK, my Title bar now says: -Client, comm port disconnected. I am not receiving any data from my OS WM-918. Running WIN XP Pro, P4-2.6, 512M mem.
I’ve checked through all the settings I can think of or find but nothing resolves the problem. I am using a USB-Serial adapter, have been for over a year with problems. Tried a standard serial cable with the same results.
I find that sometimes Win XP, when it starts up, does not properly find the com ports. Every so often, I find that WD will not get any signal through the serial port. You might try restarting or checking under system to see if the com port is working properly. It seems to more likely be a windows/hardware issue than a WD issue. Just a thought.
you have turned the client switch ON under the client/server setup, in the setup, ftp/internet setup, client server
and also make sure you have not ticked use the clientraw.txt from this location
then restart wd
quite a few people have made this mistake, a search on the forum for client, com port disconnected would find the posts and answers to it
you actualy do not need to set any settings in the client/server setup now, in a recent version of WD, for the svg clienteaw.txt create/uplaods
Thanks Brian. That was the problem, I had turned on the master switch on the server/client section.
I searched for the subject before writing to the forum but found nothing until after you said I could have found answers. I did find one reference to it in the archived posts but did not directly answer the problem - this was after using Boolean search operators.
Thanks again for the help Brian! A speedy correct answer as usual and definitely far and away one of the best support of software there is.
As I mentioned, I’m trying to setup the SVG realtime viewer but I keep getting an error: JScript runtime error. Permission denied. In looking at the forum, I see references to the creation and uploading of the clientraw.txt file. A few instances the "tick clientraw.txt in the client/server page. I would like to upload the data at rates much faster than 1 minute. Would you please explain the procedure to do this?
Thanks again Brian!
ps…thanks also to Vergil83, I have had some com port problems in XP also.
yeah, you used to have to tick that in the client/server, but now you tick it under setup, webfiles/webpage setup, real time ftp/svg
what is your url to the svg viewer?
a few people have had the permission denied, which is either caused by a the url to the clientraw.txt file being incorrect, or it being on your own server and you are trying to view it locally (but others can see it…)
After a reload of Windows XP to a new box, the realtime viewer is working fine on my server. I don’t know if the reload of WD had any part in the relatime viewer working as I used the previous wdisplayftpini and wdisplay.iin files from the previous install. At any rate, it works and I’m happy Thanks for the help.
I sympathise with you Nikos, some hosts do not allow certain files or processes to be executed on their servers.
