we had a amazing electrical storm go overhead last night 
i caught that with the video function on the web cam
that looked like a direct hit somewhere
it was east of us, so out over the harbour
there was lightning every 30 seconds or so for about an hour
We had a good thunder storm in Christchurch NZ today also. It is rather unusual here about one per year!
I stumbled on this last night while surfing the 'Net and this thread came to mind. I thought some might be interested in it as well (even if the stats are old).
