Hi, new here but long-time user of WD. Have had many weather stations over the years, finely got tired of failing moving parts in weather stations and bought the ecowitt WittBoy Pro HP2564. Love it, have had it for over 12 months, easy to set up and put my weather out to the ecowitt severs and WU directly from the console. How ever I also love Weather Display and us it to upload my weather to Windy, CWOP, WOW, WD API.
I am now not sure if I have the weather station correctly connected to WD.
WD does not show the same wind speed I see on the HP2564 console ? It shows a set figure like 8 kts.
In WD setup I am using the second option with the two API keys and the Mac address, not the first option which id an IP address?
Can anyone give some advice here please on the best set up?
Many thanks.
Hi Andrew and welcome to the forum.
Comparing wind speed between a console and WD can (and has) caused confusion! There many different options for measuring speed, instantaneous or averaged, and within those are time periods, e.g. averaged over 2 seconds, 10 seconds, 1 minute, etc. So unless you know which is being displayed where then it’s difficult to compare. For example, if the console displays instantaneous speed and you’re looking at a WD averaged value then they’re likely to be different.
What I do is a ‘sensibility’ check. If the values are pretty much the same, e.g. 8 knots on the console and 10 knots in WD then it’s probably OK. If the console is showing 70 knots and WD only shows 5 knots then there’s a problem. How far apart are the values you’re seeing?
I think that means WD only gets data from the Ecowitt cloud every few minutes, which might explain the windspeed problem. I would recommend using the IP address, unticking the API enable box but ticking use API for history data. You might want to use station rain totals, too. See start [Wiki - Fine Offset Ecowitt Ambient Weather Stations (and clones)]
You might have to restart WD, and then switch on Control Panel > Data Logger.
You can also set crongw1000 to use http get by ticking Wittboy in use and Wittboy rain priority.
Many thanks for the reply, now getting nothing, found the Wiki resource suggested by bitsostring below. Working through it now
Thanks for the Wiki working through it now
Ok, so the Wiki info was great explaining each of the three options to connect Ecowitt to WD. It is now working again, fastest logging update is ten seconds (not ideal, would liked instantaneous) and does not show wind speed under 4-5 kts but its working kind of… I used the Wounderground option. Could not get the other two options to work. Still tinkering I will probably break it again
You usually have to restart WD when you make changes to the station setup.
