Hello, while trying to figure out why my $snowdaysmonth tag is not working (I need to manually update this tag) I discovered that the Detailed Climate Report and NOAA data are not properly capturing and reporting the HDD and CDD. In mid November there are plenty of HDD’s and no CDD’s yet WD is retrieving 0 HDD and somehow reporting CDD when there should be none. Any ideas?
To be honest I have no idea what HDD and CDD represent, but mine look similar to yours, all CDD and no HDD. I never researched them as I always thought they were most beneficial for farmers or anyone who is trying to grow something…
HDD are Heating Degree Days, and CDD are Cooling Degree Days, statistics useful for those interested in heating/cooling buildings. You are thinking of GDD - Growing Degree Days.
It’s not something everyone cares about. Like Niko stated it is primarily of interest to facility maintenance/hvac folks as well as the energy industry, which I am involved with.
I replaced my HVAC with a newer unit that is more efficient. Using CDD and HDD let me compare two different years of utility bills even though the two years climate was different. I calculated a $Utility cost per Degree day and was able to see the new unit is 30% cheaper to operate. This is not something one does everyday but it sure was nice to have the data.
I hope your Holidays went well. This post strayed a bit from it’s original message, however the issue still exists. The snow tags are not holding in the climatedata.html, clearing out after midnight ( http://discourse.weather-watch.com/p/381424 ). Also the HDD/CDD values are bogus. I’m hopeful you may be able to find some time to look at this, there are other similar posts out there regarding issues with the climatedata and noaa reports and I wonder if somehow they could all be related.
Hope all is well, Happy New Year to you and your family,
Thanks Brian, just downloaded build 76 so I’ll need to wait a day to see how it goes with the snow days.
What I can tell you is that I am still unable to change the default value for calculating the hdd/cdd from .3 to 18.3, the box to do this is cut off on the ave/ext set up page. I know you have been working on other items so I’ll wait for this when you have the time.
Thanks,
Paul
Add: Yes, the snow days appear to be working fine, thank you!
the snow days should be working again in the latest .zip update

Hi Brian, this has stopped working again with build 77. I know that you removed a snowdayscount tag which could be the reason for this. I don’t understand why something that had worked for so long would stop working all of a sudden, back to around build 66 or 68 is when the climatedataouthtml stopped holding the inputted snow values after midnight. BTW, build 77 is real crisp with the compiler upgrade
