Davis Anemometer Orientation

Folks,

After a number of years I’m replacing my anemometer due to bad bearings.

It’s set to go back up but I’d like to know how to accurately point it to true north.

I have a phone app that shows true north.

Is there a way to use the phone on the pole to point it correctly?

I wish I had a phone clamp for the 2" PVC pipe.

Thanks

I find it easiest to find an object in the distance that is due north using compass (correct for magnetic deviation) whilst stood back from the pole.

Then when I am up the pole and just align the anny with that distant object - no fiddling around with a compass/phone whilst holding on to a ladder, the anny and a spanner!

Then a double check once back on the ground that it does actually align where you thought it did by standing back again!

Thanks, Mark. That occurs to be the easiest and best way.
