I am having an issue when I upload the client raw.txt file (and others) using WD ftp client that the files on my website have 0 bytes of data in them and when I look in my web file folder on my Mac they data is updated and has contains bytes of data. Any idea what might be happening in the upload?
Has this ever worked or has anything changed in your setup since it last worked, e.g. new server host, etc?
- Check the files are actually being updated (new date/time on the uploaded files).
- Check the FTP logs for errors.
This is a new installation on an older mac, (used to use a PC when I was in Colorado, wanted to set up and run a mac at our new home in Florida) Yes the files are updating in the webfiles folder on my mac, I can see them update every minute. As an example the client raw.txt file has 820 bytes on it and when I open it in notepad, you can see the data.
As for the ftplog: See below

let me know your thoughts.
I was wondering whether the timestamps on the server files were updating after each upload. That might give a clue where the problem lies. If the upload is failing before any file is transferred then you might just be looking at the same empty file that’s never changing?
I expected the FTP log to show details of the connection and uploads but maybe it doesn’t show that on a Mac?
Chris
The short answer is yes the uploaded files are showing a time stamp change. I am not sure what a mac ftp log should show. I would think it would show some end information like x files uploaded successfully, connection closed at some date and time stamp. but it doesn’t. I thought maybe the ftp program didn’t have enough time to upload the files before it was ask to run again, so I cut it back to just the minimum needed to update current information and it still does the same thing.
Thoughts?
Greg
Without the log entries for the upload it’s more difficult to figure out what’s going on. One thing to try might be the ‘rename after upload’ option (or something similarly named). That should allow the upload to take place with a temporary file name just in case it’s a file locking issue.

Interesting, I tried a much newer mac that I have WD loaded on and just tried to load the client raw.txt file from it and it did the same thing, zero byte in the file after upload. (I turned off the main internet switch on the old mac to make sure it did not overwrite anything first). I went back to the original mac and turned left the internet main switch off in WD and looked at my web file folder and watched the files update, I then shut WD down and used an FTP client program and uploaded the files manually to my website and they loaded with no issues, I then validated that the clientraw file had data in it and it did.
Are there any other files you would like me to upload that you can look at?

Also something may have changed with my hosting service that they no longer permit ftp only access, I think they are are requiring sftp. Is WD capable of sftp and if so what is the setup procedures?
Thank you
If that was the case then your ftp client program would not have worked either
What build of WD are you using
Is your ftp set to passive

I am running Mac version 405 recently downloaded from the App Store.
Greg
I forget (I no longer run a GUI WD). I think it can either do SFTP or FTPS, or maybe both now. I assume, but may be wrong, that the MAC version supports the same protocols.
Chris
I hate it when this happens but all of a sudden, it is now uploading the files with the data in them. No clue if I had a box checked or not that I made a change to but it is now working. It may have been on the hosting side as well, any ways it is working on that front. Now to get the website files correct. That may be an email to Ken True on that one LOL
Thanks for your help
Greg
It’s a computer so it’s bound to do odd things
