Current snow depth

Hi Brian,

Could we start saving the current snow depth each day. I don’t think we have it saved any place.

Thanks,
John

Hi all, has anyone seen the log file xxxxxlgsnow? I can’t find it.

Thanks,

John

The daily snow depth is located in xxxxxlg2.txt last column on the right and it’s in cm even is your system is using inches. See data for Jan 12 in red.
Hope that helps.

High soil Low soil High temp Low temp Snow Depth
-100.0 100.0 13.6 1.3 0
-100.0 100.0 7.8 -4.8 0
-100.0 100.0 -1.8 -9.1 0
-100.0 100.0 2.7 -8.2 0
-100.0 100.0 -0.9 -8.2 0
-100.0 100.0 -3.3 -11.8 0
-100.0 100.0 -3.9 -14.3 8.1

-100.0 100.0 -5.4 -9.5 7.1
-100.0 100.0 -3.3 -10.6 0
-100.0 100.0 -1.3 -9.8 7.6
-100.0 100.0 -6.1 -9.5 5.1 = 2.0 inch of snow

Cheers

No, that is NOT correct. I input snow using “Current snow depth” each day, and I have nothing in the xxxxxlg2.txt. That has been discussed here many times and we are many people wishing that Current snow depth could be saved. Here is my xxxxxlg2.txt file:

High soil Low soil High temp Low temp Snow Depth
-100.0 100.0 4.1 -0.2 0
-100.0 100.0 0.2 -3.8 0
-100.0 100.0 -2.1 -6.1 0
-100.0 100.0 -4.1 -5.6 0

Hi All,

I emailed Brian and he said there is a log file xxxxxlgsnow.txt that has “Current Snow Depth” saved, I can’t find the file. I save it manually but I can’t report it. It is good information to have reported.

Thanks,

John

Hi All,

The snow data saved in xxxxxlg2.txt is total snow for the day not “Current Snow Depth” IE current snow on the ground.

At least that’s my understanding.

Thanks,

John

I don’t have that file. I also save it manually. I wish there was a way to save it automatically from WD. Several people have asked for that!

That’s my understanding also. And I don’t log that. All I use is Current snow depth.

Hi All,

Is anyone showing “snow on the ground” from prior years manual data?

Thanks

John

I’m not sure if this is what you’re after, but I am showing the “total” snow received so far this winter. This includes snow recorded in December 2010 and January 2011.

Unless something drastic has changed (maybe the new compiler version?), WD does not remember the amount of manually imputed snow on the ground. I’ve been using a Excel for the last 4 years to track that. Definitely nothing fancy, but I find the data interesting.

No, nothing has changed. It’s still not recorded. We are several people who would love to see this in WD! I’m also using Excel, and I hope to get rid of that some day…

Hi All,

I would be a nice addition, it is very important information for us snowmobiler’s.

today’s snow depth is used for that logfile
if you also enter a value for that, then that will get used
looks like that is your problem runarbg , you need to have been inputting in both places

I could change it so that if no value entered for todays snow depth then the current snow depth will get used for the logfile

No, don’t mix up Today’s snow fall and Current snow depth! This is two totally different inputs!
We need both to be logged!

If you have a look at http://www.servicesenteret.as/weather/klimasnow.php, the upper table is Today’s snow fall from WD, and the lower table Snow on ground from my excel file. Totally different values!

What we miss is “Current snow depth”. This data is not been logged anywere.

I don’t have Today’s snow depth. Do you mean Today’s snow fall? What I record is Current Snow Depth, and only that. That is the depth of snow that I measure on the ground each day and input in WD.

That is correct, and I really would like that to be logged too!

Hi All,

This can be confusing, The “Current snow depth” is the bottom snow number in "Snow Input (Inches). This number is manually entered and manually updated. I need WD to save that number (Current snow depth) every day during the snow season.

This would be very useful to have from year to year.

Thanks so much.

John

Maybe think of current snow depth as “snow pack” and today’s snow fall as “did it snow today” or “new snow”. Around here snow pack, as measured and trended by the state hydrology people, is a pretty important number. (My numbers are just important to me and my weekend neighbors.)

Thats a good explanation, and it’s also very important to us as well.
