I have had Weather Display (10.29n) installed for two days now and have noticed some behavior that impacts my computer. My weather station is an OS WMR968.
Every minute I get a 6 - 12 sec spike to 100% on the CPU. I have not as yet successfully set up any web or FTP activity so I’m wondering what activity is happening every minute. I do log my data every minute. While this may seem like a trivial issue it does have an impact on my wife who uses the computer to play games and work so I need to resolve this. I am getting a new, bigger, stronger, faster machine but as a media centre machine I don’t want PVR recordings impacted. I don’t really want to keep the old machine as a weather computer only as I already have 4 computers. Don’t need to heat the room in winter with all the electronics
My task bar keeps filling up with tasks that aren’t active. For example, at the moment Extra Daily High Low Weather parameters is in the task bar but is not in use. If I close it from the task bar it shuts down Weather Display as well.
As I am learning this feature rich but rather complicated software I hope you will be gentle with any responses.
hi
what speed is the pc that its running on?
if you could email me your settings files, i will check how it performs here (see in the faq of this forum for how to do that)
re the things in the task manager, i have not seen that happen myself
anyone else see that?
re the daily hi low window…
i have just managed to reproduce that problem…which happens if you minimise to the task bar, that window…
the solution is to use the X to close that window when you have finished viewing it, each time,…
there is some quirk of windows happening otherwise…
i will add a minimise to tray for the daily hi /lo window
also try unticking to update the real time graphs and or even the main screen graphs under setup, extra/misc, to reduce cpu time on the minute, on your 200mhz pc…
Unticking the real-time graphs has made a serious improvement. Thanks for your help.
As an aside the reason I have chosen your software over the competition, besides the abundance of features, is the personal support that you give for your product. Support makes a difference when deciding who to do business with and you have chosen to be a difference. Excellent work.
hi
was it just the no real time graph update that made a big difference, i.e do you still have ticked to update main graphs?
(so i know where to look for a potential bottle neck)
The only thing I changed was the real-time graph tick. I like to make one change at a time so that I can tell which one works and that was the first thing I tried. Made a big difference.
it must be the saving of the real time graph data then…which is the cpu hog.,…
i could have that done like only every 10 minutes…but then if a power cut or crash then its not up to date…
My PC hits 100% every minute for about 6-8 secs. Sometime freezes other stuff Im working on temporarily.
My PC is bang up-to-date I built it myself last month!. Its runs AMD 64 3500+ with 1Gig of top quality ram (Corsair) and 2 x SATA Hdd’s so it’s no slouch.
Interesting. I hadn’t noticed, but when I went looking for it see what I found!
about every fifty seconds.
I don’t play games much so I hadn’t picked up the hiccup. My machine is an Athlon XP1800 with 1GB RAM running fully patched XP Home.
Other programs running include Outlook, Digiguide, MSN Messenger, Skype… I don’t think it’s any of them.
same problem here my CPU always remains to 50% - 100% .
My machine is an Athlon XP1800 with 512mb RAM with windows xp pro
Other programs running: kerio mailserver and kaspersky antivirus
do you have WD doing web cam capture?
try decreasing the size of the web cam image on the direct web cam capture screen if you do
or maybe you are using wd for live video streaming?
that uses alot of cpu too
otherwise you should not be seeing cpu use like that
Can I just wade in here too with my observations. I have a 2600+ athlon which shows the same sort of behaviour. Now, if you leave WD’s main window on screen it reveals what I think is causing this 100% CPU usage spike. It occurs when the main graphs are refreshed, you can see it happening as everything freezes for a few seconds and then I can see a slowish graph refresh occur from right to left across the main graphsa and then the wjole screen fickers for a second… I too have switched off real time graph update but do have webcam caputre on. Its not the webcam as that causes my hard drive to chatter all the time with all the image saving. During the CPU usage spike, even that stops ! I even upgraded my CPU because of this to no avail.
I have recently (today) moved to a 2.8Ghz processor. I see a cpu spike to 30% once a minute, I still have real time logging off. I used to see the graphs jiggle when they updated but with the new machine all I see is the redraw of the graph with the appropriate shift in data.
This should be interesting… I just got my new Weather Machine (computer) and will start getting it ready tonight and plan to move the weather station setup to it tomorrow.
