Conecting an Ecowitt HP2553 to WD

Having just changed from a La Crosse WS (hard-wired to PC) to a new Ecowitt HP2553 Station (Wifi) as an old bloke, I am having all sorts of trouble connecting to WD on my PC. Can anyone help, in simple terms that a geriatric can understand? Any help appreciated.

Hi Cmitch,
Did you mange to get this working? I am looking at the HP2553 as well, to replace a failed 15yo Oregon Station. Have been using WD all along, so wanted to maintain that if possible.

Looking at the connectivity in WD, it seems you need to specify the IP address of the station.

Cheers
Tim

I’d suggest posting your questions on the WXForum as there is a wealth of Ecowitt expertise on there. I’m sure someone there will have the HP2553 connected to WD in some form or other. From what I have seen on that forum the HP2553 can only send data via the Customised Server function and I’m not sure if WD supports this where the GW1100 supports this and an API for directly accessing the the data and WD supports this API.

I only have a GW1100 gateway which connects easily to WD and use an old Android tablet as a console running Personal Weather Tablet app.

PS I have just checked the WXForum and the console which comes with the HP2553 station cannot connect directly to WD, the only way to get the data into WD is to upload to Ecowitt’s own cloud and then use the API to download the data to WD which is limited to 5 minute resolution. I believe some people buy an additional GW1100 or GW2000 gateway and then connect to WD directly using the local API which gathers data on a sub minute resolution. These gateways do not have any display ability.

Thank you, very helpful!

Hi Cmitch

I have now setup an Ecowitt HP 2553 with WD and have it working.
Happy to assist if you are still having issues! Just let me know.

Cheers

Hi Tim, I am having the same issues. The WD station detail page is confusing (not unusual). I had data coming in and it said good data but weird readings. fiddle fiddle - now I have a red 0 for good data. I am connected to Ecowitt.net ok, but want WD working so I can continue with my WD on a spare TV channel.
Have my API and WD Api and MAc and IP in my network.

Hey Prolecs,
Sorry, I’m not really able to help anymore, as I gave up using WD about 6 months ago, after trying out Cumulus. WD could be so great, but there are so many inconsistencies in the application (just look at all the different graph designs!), and so many different ways to make things work. What sealed it for me was trying to get my rainfall to align with the new Ecowitt station. Never could do it, no matter what instructions I followed. It’s a shame because I know the effort that has gone into it, but I think it’s grown organically in so many different directions that it’s too hard now for me to think about.

Cumulus has been great, once I got over the relatively short learning curve.
