Comparison of Davis and LaCrosse..

you could use the custom tags and use the customise the main screen and put them on there…

Brian,

I have never had a great deal of luck with customizing the main screen and I did try that already but A: Could not move them anywhere i could read them, they only want to be in TOP left window B: the custom tag did’t parse it read %vpreception% on the screen…

Customize screen and me just don’t get along… LOL

-Bob

Congratulations, Bob! 8)

I had not seen this thread until just a couple of minutes ago…

As most others have said, you will not regret buying the Davis one bit! One excellent upgrade (obviously) is the the update time of all of the data variables! 8O

Take care.

bob, you can add tags either to the current conditions area, or to down by the clock on the main screen
you need to tick to allow changes/customisation
then use shift left mouse or ctrl left mouse to move and resize the object the mouse is over…

Bob,

Look at my main screen. Look down toward the bottom of screen right below the condition jpeg. The numbers you see are for my VP2. If I can do it you can do it Bob.

Chuck

looks like there is a problem with the weather dials image there chuck…its huge…
try enabling the customisation in the extra/misc setup and then reducing the dial image size…
also, if you have set wd to use full screen, mode, then try not having that in use?

I did what you told me Brian and it seemed to work. I will leave it alone for know because it is where I want it. I’ve been having problems with the large display in the past. Hopefully this works.

Chuck

Chuck,

Ok today I entered %vpissstatus% in one of the second set of boxes and i see “OK” on my screen fine… However when I enter %vpreception% I see “11570 657 0 118 601” on the screen now. WTH?

I entered %vpreception% into another box and it shows the same weird number as above? And the numbers increment slowly?
Now reads “11662 659 0 118 602”

Edit Of course it would help if use the right tag: %vpreception2% dohhhhhhhhhhhhh Thanks Brian and Chuck…

-Bob

Bob, those numbers deal with reception. Don’t remember exactly what they are but basically they represent number of packets sent, dropped, missed, received or some sort. Somewhere in the manual they explain what it means. I think what you’re looking for is the reception % .%vpreception2%…The current % reception I believe The ‘OK’ is the battery condition.

–Dave

Hi Dave,

yeah figured that out… dohhhh see my edited post above

So now i have the Reception % and the ISS Battery status displayed over the top left of my web cam view on my desktop, cool

Ok today should be a test to a certain degree as we look to be having a full sun mid 80’s day and this will test the positioning of the ISS for temps…

-Bob

Bob,

Do you have any pictures of your Davis VP2 installation yet?

–Tim

Hi Tim,

Not yet… LOL Been too busy to drag the camera out, but will try in the next few days…

-Bob

Sounds good, Bob…

–Tim

You’ll be amazed how little direct sun will affect it with the FARS. Mine is in full sun and actually reads lower than two other temps in the shade; all of which read w/i a half degree at night.

BTW… saw you on that TV clip!

–Dave

OMG Dave saw me LOL Told you Ugly, Fuggly and OLD

Actually my concern is radiation not directly on the ISS but in the area it is located. It is on a pole that i installed directly between my house (North wall) and a garage about 20 feet away however of course the wall of the garage is south facing and I never could get the La Crosse to read correct afternoon temps due to the radiated temps in the general area.

I have the ISS about 8 foot up facing due south, the height is for two reasons, one to get it above the trailing roof line of the garage and two to allow it the most sun exposure for the solar panel to the south.

The reason i want it to work there is that is where the Anemometer pole (for all three anemometers) is located and it is the easiest install… If the radiated heat causes issues then my next move would be to move the ISS about 30 feet west which would get it clear of the two bldg’s and then use a wire extension to the anemometer to reach it where it is…

Time will tell (and CWOP QC reports)

-Bob

I wondered what that ISS “ok” tag was… thanks!

BTW, here’s what the other tags numbers are…

Packets, Missed, Resynchs, In A Row, CRC errors, Current Reception

I think anything above 90% is good… 95-98% is about optimal.

:o 8O :?

That’s all I have to “say”…

–Tim

Although I would love one, I can’t affrord a Davis right now, especially since it appears the 24 hour FARS is not available as an add on option later. However, if I didn’t get something now using this year’s tax refund, I’d probably be waiting yet another year.

I got a LaCrosse 2308, primarily because it can easily run either cabled or wireless. Well, OK, it didn’t hurt that it was $139 + shipping at WeatherBuffs. I am a ham, so I thought I might have problems with wireless when I am transmitting. I am going to run it wired most of the time for faster updates and to avoid wireless interference. However, on those rare occasions where we have masive local lightning storms 8O, I can disconnect it, along with all my antennas, where all the cables enter the house. The LaCrosse will switch to wireless mode and I will still have at least some weather data
