Comparison of Davis and LaCrosse..

If I was to add either i think i would go with solar as the UV is just nasty all spring, summer and fall here anyway, Danger Will Robinson nasty LOL… The solar would give me THSW and that would be the one I would add if i add either in the future…

I am happy with the decision so far and switching from the la crosse to the VP in WD was a piece of cake, very smooth and easy

-Bob

In mine too, so I adapted an RS bracket, extended the cable of the solar, and mounted it there

Thanks for that. I think I’m going to go this route.

You will like - there are a couple of bugs I’m discovering and I have noted them for Brian in this thread http://discourse.weather-watch.com.msg123563.html#new

By the time you get one, Brian will have the bugs worked out

I wish I could use the wireless anemometer box for the solar and UV also. My location for UV and solar isnt very good, it only gets sun for about 5 hours. But its the best I had. Yes, when I first got the 6163 my response was “holy crap” its huge!

My anemometer is on a roof (that was pain) but it works great. Much better than my 2010. The 2010 is good for what it is. If the 2010 had 2.5 update rates I would have been much happier.

That was the next question I was about to ask, can you plug in the solar and UV sensors in to the anemometer transmitter kit or not ?

I’m quite lucky where I am, in that I have my ISS in a fairly open spot where trees aren’t really in the way of those two sensors, but if I could put them up near my Anemometer on the roof, it would be so much better.

Someone had mentioned in a previous post that the rest of the plugins are dead. Oh well I am not moving them now, it was hard enough on a 32’ ladder! I dont want to go back up any time soon!

OK, Bob, 'fess up. Apart from the money, what’s this cost you?

Knowing my Boss, I reckon she’d exact a pretty heavy penalty. Whatever, I hope it works well in the dog house.

No, you can’t.

Stop talking to her about the weather station LOL

Actually she got a bit of guilt somewhere and mumbled something about all the hours i work (yes folks I really do work, just am lucky enough to work from home) and i deserved it if I wanted it Man that was when i pushed that “Confirm Order” button LOL

Provantage, can’t say enough about them, price, shipping, top of the line…

-Bob

Glad you had good results from Provantage. I ordered mine from Weatherbuffs.com - he matched (close enough) provantages prices. I had dealt with him before and he is really really good. So I wanted customer service even if it cost me $50 more. it was worth it on a $1200 purchase!

Great. Now I HAVE to buy the solar, extend the cable and get back on a 12 pitch roof. You guys just never quit.

–Dave

LOL

Now to try and get this back on topic :stuck_out_tongue:

I would not dissuade someone from buying a La Crosse, and based on my experiences and other posts i would recommend the 2310 wired, if someone simply could not afford (or wasn’t allowed) to spend the Money for a VP. As long as they realized that there would be positioning issues, wiring issues and wind reporting would be less then optimal…

Note that i ran a 2310 for almost 2 years and my CWOP QC checks were always in the Green…

However if you could possibly afford a VP don’t even consider the La Crosse. You will spend less time on your Station and have more to either enjoy the weather (This does not apply to our friends in the UK, that was for Chris :P) or work on your weather site

Just my two cents adjusted for inflation, heck adjusted for a VP which means i won’t have a cent in my pocket for a long time… LOL

-Bob

Anyone considering a LaCrosse should probably also consider Oregon Scientific. I don’t own either one, although I seriously considered the OS before buying a Davis, but a statistical analysis of the postings on this group would show way less problems with the OS station than the LC.

My problem with the Oregon stations was the reporting intervals IIRC… seems to me they were not comparable to the 2310 wired…

-Bob

been out all day…just home…
congrats Jaxweather!!! , yeahha

Great to see that Bob. I have to agree with the others you will really like the VP2. I have had no problems whatsoever with my unit.

Chuck

Thanks everone

Was a long and hard battle but wisdom, reason and much begging finally won the day

Now if I could figure out how to display the VP reception and battery status on the main WD screen…

-Bob

So far as I know you can’t get them permanently on the main screen, they are under View > Davis VP Extra Sensor Info

Thanks niko
