COM Port Problem--No Data

I just moved my LaCrosse 2310 to a new computer, but since the computers have different OSes (Win 2000 and XP), I didn’t try to move WD’s config files. I just installed from scratch. I’m running XP, and I have just COM1 on this computer. I’ve been using the port to sync my Palm PDA, so the port has been working. But the title bar of WD reports “Comm Port error.”

I don’t know what to try in order to correct this.

the hot sync software will be still running and hogging the com port
stop that from running, e.g with task manager

Lane,

FWIW I recently did a swap from W2K to XP and it was fine using the FAQ…

Yep, there’s a FAQ for that Palm problem http://discourse.weather-watch.com/t/9653

As Bob says the move process will work fine between different MS OS’s.

If that doesn’t completely do it, many of us have had a comport error caused by a ‘ball point mouse’ in XP

Hope you get things up and running.

Thanks for all the replies, guys! It turned out that what I had plugged into the serial port was not my Palm cradle, but my new UPS! The Palm uses a USB port. But the discussion did the trick anyway, because it pointed out the possibility of something else using the serial port. And sure enough I had the Power Options in Control Panel set to monitor the serial port. After I disabled it, WD fired up right away!

I really appreciate the help.

Power Options in Control Panel set to monitor the serial port
I wonder if that is Aifans problem too
