Northern California Pacific Marine Layer. The marine layer snuck in unusually low and level around sunset this evening. The marine layer of cloud/fog forms immediately above the cold Pacific ocean water, the warmer air above that layer acts like a seal, and keeps the air below it from mixing and dispersing.

Mammatus - I thought these looked like mammatus clouds. They formed after some nice thunderstorms rolled through.

Noctilucent Clouds - This is mid summer twilight in July 2006, looking west over Stornoway town. There were a few showings of Noctilucent clouds last year but this was one night that I had the camera with me.

Mammatus Formation - This is viewed from my house looking East across the Minch, towards the Scottish mainland. The CB had the mammatus formation for quite a while, but by the time I got home and got the camera out then they were starting to dissipate. An unusual sight for us up here.

Shelf Cloud - A shelf cloud on the leading edge of a large CB that tracked South to North across the peninsula that I live on. The ensuing thunder storm destroyed the roof and one bedroom of a house a couple of villages away.

Essex Sunset - Happened across this picture this morning whilst looking for something else. It was taken 3 years ago on the way home from a family visit and I had to pull into a garage forecourt to take it. It's actually 5 vertical shots fused together to create a panorama effect. Probably the most amazing sunset I've ever seen!
