What would cause me to be unable to correct the graph data? My weather system had one of its
occasional temperature glitches (a sudden drop from +48F to -22F then back to +48F). In the past,
I’ve been able to use the correct graph data utility in WD, but this time it refuses to remove the
glitch. I also tried correcting the data in the log file then have WD convert the log file to graphs,
but that doesn’t work either. I’m running the current version of WD. Has there been a change to
the graph correction utility or log conversion utility lately? Attached the graph I’m trying to correct.
I’d like to see an option added to WD that would allow me to tell it to ignore these types of glitches.
It seesm like there could be a built-in way to have WD not respond to sudden changes in temps, etc.,
unless they persist for some preset time duration. That way, excursions like this could be eliminated
on a case by case basis.
make sure you are using the very latest version, as the correct graph data now does work
or edit the log file, 112006lg.txt, and then convert the logfile to graphs
also, if using a 2310 station, in wired mode, you need to replace the cheap data cables with better quality twisted pair shielded (CAT 5 sheilded)
its a must for all owners of that station
Thanks! I had just downloaded and installed 10.36t but had not tried correcting the graph again
since doing that; I had last tried with 10.36s. The graph is now corrected.
I did try correcting the log file then converting the log file to a graph, but it did not fix the glitch.
That was also with 10.36s, so maybe there was a problem with that function, too.
I am running my 2310 in wireless mode, so cables are not the issue with the glitch. I think these
glitches may be due to random corruption of the wireless transmission between the outside unit
and the base unit inside, maybe due to some other radio transmission of some sort (I am running a
wireless 802.11b router in the same room as the weather station).
with the convert logfiles to graphs, did you also go , recreate the last 31 days data file?
you need to do that too, as the graphs are based on that file now
also, even in wireless mode, the cheap non shielded non twisted cables that come with the station will still pick up RF interference and so you are still recommended to replace the cables
No, I did not recreate the last 31 days graph; I didn’t know I needed to do that. I’ll
remember to do that in the future if I go that route to correct a glitch. I’d rather use
the graph correction function than edit the log file.
The only cables in use on my 2310 are the ones between the rain gauge and the base
and the annemometer and the base. The temperature/humidity sensor is contained
within the outside base and no cables are used for that function; the outside transmits
to the inside wirelessly. Do you think I could get interference with the temperature
reading due to noise on the rain or wind instrument cables?
one problem with the correct graph function, is that only corrects the last 31 day data file
i need to make it also correct the month stamped data file used for the view ,averages/extremes
i will work on that
That would be great! One of the problems with this glitch I get is that it messes up the extremes,
and records to date and, as far as I can tell, there’s no way to easily correct that, unless I happen
to remember what the previous records were. That’s where a function of WD to ignore instantaneous
spikes like this would be helpful. Thanks.
I’ve been quiet about the La Cross stations problems…as I didn’t want to come across as bashing them. I’m not, but with the experience I’ve had with the La Crosse WS-2310 that I purchased for a nephew, if you are in an area with lots of RF interference and you can ever get to the point your getting good consistent data from the LaCrosse at all times, consider your self very lucky.
And as a start to that end, don’t pass go until you do as Brian recommends, replace all the cables that came with it with good shielded cat 5.
with this update: http://www.weather-display.com/downloadfiles/WeatherD.zip
i have it where you can set the actual rain total to use
so you can actualy set/corret the daily rain total in the data…and also that used for the averages/extremes (as now when you click on save data, it also updates the averages/extreme month stamped datafile (so now its a one stop shop for correct the data (except the logfile (which is like your user editable logfile (not used for reports)
i also fixed the data not being corrected exactly where the cursor position was…
note, make sure when correct daily rain total (i.e where it goes back down to zero) that you release the left mouse button right on where it goes to zero… (and then click on set start/end).
