I have automated scripts that email me, auto forum post would be good :slight_smile:

There are ways to do this by requesting an API key to allow a script to make API calls. I can give you some pointers if you’re interested in trying it.

Search for “Creates a new topic, a new post, or a private message”. There are lots of other API functions but a lot of them need Admin account elevated privileges.

If I’m reading this User API keys specification - #18 by vsoch - Developer Guides - Discourse Meta correctly then I’ll have to generate a user API key for you. If you want to try the API out let me know and I’ll dig deeper into what I need to do (my brain isn’t 100% functional at 04:00 :face_with_spiral_eyes:🫨:rofl:)

PS. I dug a bit deeper and I see that I can create granular API keys for specific users. So I could create a key for you that allows you to create a new post but not do anything else.

I have done a bit of investigation, and I should be able to generate a php/curl file, with hidden api key etc.To post when run is missing etc.

I’ll look at creating a key for you when I’ve had my breakfast.

As an extra thought, both Tom and Sam have accounts on the forum so your script could also be used to send PMs to them which should generate a notification email.

As a further, further thought. The response to creating a topic/post should return the topic and post number. If you store those then if the data later becomes available you could update the post.

Your API key is waiting in a PM for you tomorrow.
