Bird Weather website

I’ve just rebuilt our BirdNet Pi and connected it up to the global Birdweather website - BirdNET-Pi - Blackpool-UK :: BirdWeather

Not many detections yet because I only finished the rebuild after our morning rush of birds and we’ve also been out in the garden a fair bit too.

It’s a fun and interesting project for a Raspberry Pi.

Here’s mine: BirdNET-Pi - Wilmslow, UK :: BirdWeather

so what is the raspberry pi doing is it using a camera or something

It records the surroundings and analyses the recordings for birdsong. It tries to identify the bird species from any birdsong it hears. It gives a confidence estimate of how sure it is that it’s the specific species. If the confidence is below a certain level then it doesn’t include it in the stats. Also if it’s a bird that is unlikely to be heard in your area it doesn’t include it, e.g. birds only found in New Zealand wouldn’t be included in my stats.

That makes it sound easy but the logistics of setting it up may be a lot harder, getting a ip68 microphone because it has to be outside that works with the pi then where to put it and wire it back to the pi

My Pi with the microphone attached is in the greenhouse. I did wonder about putting a microphone into a plastic bottle with the bottom cut out and the wire sealed into the top. It seems to work well enough in the greenhouse so I’ve not done anything yet.

Whilst the greenhouse is often pretty humid, the Pi and microphone have survived 12 months in there without any obvious problems/corrosion. The greenhouse has Ethernet/WiFi now so the connection to the BirdNet Pi is even better.

Mine is in a garden shed with the microphone outside under the eaves.

I think I need to move the microphone elsewhere in the greenhouse. We put a new waterfall in the pond recently and I think the constant noise from it is desensitizing the microphone.

Erm. . . I think I’d need to install a loo as well :wink:

Did I not mention installing a toilet?
