Barometer Settings

How do I get WD to read my pressure after correcting it for sea level?
I can set the display panel on my WMR968 for sea level and it will read the same as the local reporting station.
NWS Local Readings

But WD won’t read the sea level settings from the display.
When I enter the offset recommended in the setup & by Brian it is about 2 inHG off.
I have messed with the barometer offset and can get it close but it doesn’t stay consistent. Any thoughts?

My readings with the offset

hi
what do you have set as the barometer offset in the setup page?
61 (hpa) is the starting point for a wmr968

what do you have set as the barometer offset in the setup page?

It is set at 102.7mb. Just seems like a large adjustment to me.

61 is the starting point (its because when I first supported the wmr968 when they first came out, I used the wrong baro data location)
so your offset is then in reality 42 mb or so
do you live at altitude?

do you live at altitude?

I’m just outside of Kansas City about 2000 feet above sea level.

2000??? Are you on a radio tower or something?

I’m at 980ft and I’m a good 150 miles north of you.

2000 feet altitude will mean quite a large baro offset is needed
i cant remember the formula off hand
but you can think of a barometer as a altimeter (or vice versa)

Nope no radio tower. This is what I was going by. Everything I can find says the same thing:

The Mean Elevation of the state of Kansas is 2,000 feet above sea level.

This is your’s Tom. Remember it’s an average. If you can tell me exact I’d appreciate it.

I don’t know how much variation you have locally but this http://www.city-data.com/city/Overland-Park-Kansas.html calls it 1,000 ft.

Or look up your nearest airport at www.airnav.com I found http://www.airnav.com/airport/SN54 = 961 ft

are you using the qfe option in WD?
try not using that…
and just simply set the baro offset so the barometer reading in WD matches your neareset offical reading (and allow for any differences on the isobar map, etc)

Thanks for the info Niko. Like I said it was an average.

I have now turned QFE off and adjusted the altitude so we’ll see what happens.

Thanks all!!

that would have been the problem , using the QFE option
