yes, i have it
works well
I can understand how I missed that thread… Its almost 8 months old.
I just started checking it out. Funny that it didn’t seem to have any setup for the mic/headset though.
All the lan dudes at work were talking about it today. Thought I’d try it out.
skype: tnet_services
I use it since beginning of last year.
The last version works very well.
I’m actually taking a day off tomorrow… so I will be doing some playing with it then and this weekend.
I’ve got it running now if someone wants to try it. I’ve not actually used it yet other than run the software.
I don’t know whether this is true or not, but I heard somewhere that SkyPE was a big source of adware. I’d be interested in anyone’s experience with it…
No Adware showed up after loading it. I scanned with all the tools I have. The website claims it is adware free too.
It might be that what files you get from other might contain adware, but that would be no different from downloading from various websites.
I finally got to test with Ed and some others, one at work. The one at work was really muddy sounding, Ed and others were fairly clear. I won’t know until Monday what type of mic the guy at work was using.
I’ve been using it for about 5 months and works great. Good audio. I use it for all my long distance. At .017 per min for connecting to normal phones at the other end, hard to beat. Free between Skype users. It does show up with an odd CID of 000-012-3456.
Hi Jeffcharger,
I have no problem at all with Skype. I have antivirus, firewall and anti-spyware installed on my setup.
I experienced a problem using Skype. I run Windows XP Professional and turn the web server on whenever I am testing my ASP code. One time the web server wouldn’t come up and I spent hours looking for the reason. It turned out that Skype has ‘stolen’ port 80, the default port for the IIS5 web server.
I de-installed Skype and haven’t used it since, though I seem to remember reading somewhere that it is possible to configure Skype to use a different port for web access.

i ran into a similar thing with my webcam streaming on port 80 and gottomypc
i now set wd web cam streaming port to use instead of leaving it as 0 (auto)
Skype is a great program
I think there should be a skype plugin to WD
Like, if users in a list is online it will call them and play a generated voice weather warning based on certain settings etc
would be cool to get a phone from your weatherstation right? 8O

Thanks clatters. I now know which application uses port 80 on my computer: it’s Skype. I couldn’t run an Apache server on port 80. So I used another port for my server. By the way, do you know a software that can list all the used port on a computer? Cheers.
I don’t know any specific software, as there are potentially 65536 ports, however the following URL lists the most significant and formally registered ports.
http://acronymsonline.com/lists/tcp-udp.asp
Hope you find it useful

Hi lehautfourneau, on second thoughts I DO know of some software that shows which communication ports are currently in use and that is Sygate Personal Firewall. (which has a , very good, free version)
The direct link to the previous URL I gave is Service Name and Transport Protocol Port Number Registry
You could also look at the excellent http://www.grc.com page GRC | ShieldsUP! — Internet Vulnerability Profiling which will ‘probe your ports’. It checks the first 1056 ports and shows which are open.
Keith
The GRC stuff will only show open ports on the internet side, it is an excellent site though. If you want to see the traffic on your pc try Ethereal at http://www.ethereal.com which will trace all your activity on your PC from the PC so a firewall/nat router wont get in the way as it would for GRC.

Netlimiter http://www.netlimiter.com/ too. Has the added functionality of being able to ration bandwidth between applications. (Free trial but not free)
