I abandoned Twitter some time ago - before it became ex (X). I’m sure that was the right decision. I’ve been watching alternatives come along and looked at Mastodon and BlueSky. BlueSky seems to be taking off a little now so I’ve created a personal and a weather-watch.com account on there.
I had a thought that the weather-watch.com account could become useful as a backup way to let you know about forum/WxSim data issues, although that really does depend on people seeing posts on BSky about such things. So these are only early thoughts!
If any of you are BSky users please feel free to follow me. I’ll follow you back if you do…I think that’s the way to build some more momentum with BSky usage.
PS. If you want to follow my personal account it’s @dadmin2.bsky.social on Bluesky
I’m with ya about X. I was a heavy user a few years ago, but it’s been destroyed.
I don’t use Bluesky much, but I’ve had an account there for some time, just followed you. I am Rikostan pretty much everywhere and have been since '99.
BSky was pretty quiet when I registered my personal account about 10 months ago, It’s getting busier now though, especially with the influx of Brazilian users.
I’m not seeing much weather related contnet there yet, but content is user driven so I’m as guilty as anyone else about that! Lots of nice photoastronomy pictures to look at, and I’ve even uploaded one or two of my attempts.
I used to be on Twitter a lot, back in the day, as they say. (Registered in 2007)
The last couple of years I used it less and less. Even more so now it’s Elons toy platform.
I am on Bluesky, but don’t “social” that much any more. As in, I actually hardly use it.
Coincidentally though, I am in the process of creating (on a separate account) “post a weather update from my own weather data every hour on the hour on Bluesky”. Similar to what was once possible with Twitter.
I’ll create a new topic here for that when it actually works.
Also, just now followed you on Bluesky.
I followed you back. I’ll watch out for you weather poster. Not sure it’s something I’d use directly but I am considering posting other information to BSky automatically.
You are? Have you by any chance seen/found anything about auto posting being specifically allowed on their platform? I’d like to prevent from getting blocked/suspended.
All I could find was that it is not allowed to spam. But nothing specifically on the automated part of posting status updates.
I have it set up and running at the moment as a test. (Also on Mastodon, because, why not )
I haven’t seen anything to suggest it is it isn’t allowed. My thoughts were to post irregular status information, e.g. the WXSIM GFS data is late being processed. At worst that could be once every 6 hours, but in reality it would normally be once every few weeks or so.
I asked Bluesky support if this kind of automated weather update posting is allowed, as in, for a hobby weather website. This is their reply:

So I guess it’s allowed.
