Attached is a “whole-screen” shot of my desktop. I moved some stuff around to make it more legible(sp?) and saved it. Now when I minimize it to the tray and later bring it up again the main screen shows where it is shown in the picture but the entire rest of the screen is black. I can go back to the main screen customize and click on Use Last Saved and it returns to normal. I’ve been trying to solve this myself but am not having a lot of luck. Anyone?
Try shutting down WD, and then open regedit. In regedit go to: HKEY_CURRENT_USER\wdisplayftp.ini\Main autoscale. Backup (export) the complete Main Autoscale key. Left click on Main Autoscale and in the right window pane, delete the string values: “new height to use”, “new width to use” and “use new size”. Restart WD. If this doesn’t work, I know a couple of other things to try.
Good Luck !

Editing the registry is not a problem however, if I delete those values do you think the Main Screen will return to it’s “original” (almost unreadable) size or to the size I want it to be as shown in the screenshot?
Are you using the screen size setups in the main setup menu ? (see below) The reg key I mentioned controls the “Full screen when larger than 800X600” settings. Those are different to the Main Screen Customisation setup, and might be conflicting. Try just clicking the “no” setting on the “Full screen when larger than 800X600” menu as a test. Also, after you clicked the “Use Last Saved” in the Main Screen Customisation setup and it went from black to normal screen, did you try clicking the “save” button immediately after clicking the “Use Last Saved”?
That wasn’t checked but “show scroll bars” was. A fresh pair of eyes almost always solves a nagging problem. Thank you
That’s interesting that “show scroll bars” would do that.
“A fresh pair of eyes” does do wonders. No thanks necessary… besides, you pretty much solved that one yourself.
BTW: Have a good trip!
WD stopped responding to clicking the tray icon so I had to kill it with TaskManager. Then I did the registry thing suggested above and I now have a Main Screen that is 2" X 2". Doesn’t matter what I do it stay 2x2. The labels etc will increase but the main screen is STILL 2x2. It will not let me use the mouse to enlarge it by pulling down the right bottom corner. How can I get back at least the original screen? I have also tried the reset screen size and restart. #-o AND except for the 2x2 image, the entire screen is black again.
in the registry, in the wdisplayftp.ini settings, find
[main screen custom]
mainscreen x=
mainscreen y=
and delete those settings and then restart wd
Maybe in Main Screen (not custom) ?
zip and email me your settings files
More specifically…? I’m not sure exactly which files you want. #-o
OK…got it. Soon as “American Chopper” is over I’ll zip 'em and send 'em. Thanks.
Sent…thanks.
That “registry thing” I gave, wasn’t intended to be used to fix the problem of WD not responding to the tray icon. It was for resetting your screen size only! #-o And, I assumed (wrongly, obviously) that you knew how to redo your settings after that. It should have been simple to redo, by using one of the screen sizing options found on the setup menu. I use the “base screensize on width” or the “increase screensize %” , and have no problems at all. Besides all that, I clearly told you to back up the HKEY_CURRENT_USER\wdisplayftp.ini\Main autoscale key, so you could restore that key if necessary. I’m sorry if you misunderstood my suggestion and instructions.
solution: (I have your setings)
setup
then click on
reset screen size (and then restart)
and then restart WD
then its fixed
(you must have set a use % size at some stage (setup, set screen size % from normal)
Wow, I’m a little bowled over by your response.
- The unclickable tray icon had nothing to do with the registry fix. It happened that the icon wasn’t responding, so I had to kill WD and while I was at it I made the registry adjustments.
- The sizing options (all of them) I tried. I happy for you that when you used them they worked. They did not work for me.
- I already know how to export and import from and to the registry…done it a thousand times. As a matter of fact I very often do an entire export just so any new software I load cannot do me in with new registry keys.
- I did not misunderstand any of your suggestions and/or instructions. I executed them just as suggested. I still have that particular export on my desktop.
Actually, I think it would be a good idea to absent myself from this board due to some less than kind responses from some folks who apparently are of the opinion that I am some sort of a dimwit who barely knows what the keyboard is for. So good luck everyone and keep watching the weather.
No…I don’t think you’re a dimwit. I can tell by the high quality of you custom screen signature banner, that you are more than capable at running a PC.
There is no need for you to leave the forum. I’m going to stay hidden in the background, and let the Monitors, Windy, and others offer suggestions or comments. That way I can’t offend anyone. Thanks for letting me know I upset you. I’m very sorry!!
BTW: Just curious if you restored that reg key before you posted about your 2x2 screen, and if after the restore you still had the 2x2 screen??
