I have been running WD on the same “weather” computer for the last three years or so without any issue. Last week I noticed that WD was not updating. When I checked the screen I saw that it was not receiving packets from the weather station itself. This computer sits in the basement and has not been touched in at least a month. No new programs installed, nothing removed.
I at first (of course) blamed my LeCrap 2315 weather station. I had a spare console and cable so I tried those with no change – still nothing received by WD. I took both consoles and cables to another computer, installed WD, and they worked immediately. So, the consoles seem fine.
I went back to the weather computer and, since it had not been done in several years, backed up WD and Homeseer, and put in a new hard drive and reinstalled Windows XP.
With nothing else on the computer besides XP I installed WD and plugged the console back in. It still does not work. I have verified that the com port it is attached to works. Just in case,to rule out the com ports on the motherboard I tried the same serial to usb adapter (the same one that I used to successfully connect the console to the test computer where WD worked without issue) and that did not work either.
So, I have a working LeCrap 2315, a working copy of WD (on another computer), a working com port on my weather computer, but not when I try the console and WD on my weather computer.
I do not know what else to try.
Any ideas?
Thanks…
Could be a setting problem in WD. One test you can try is do a fresh install of WD to a new location, then before you run WD create a files called 2wd.txt in the WD install directory. This will allow WD to run without messing up your ini file from the original install. If it works then you know the original install has a setting problem and your computer and drivers are ok.
Here is an FAQ on how to do this test…
The installation that I am have now is brand new and has none of my original files. I just downloaded a new copy of WD and installed it…
Hi,
Check the settings for Your com port in the device manager, the connectors and cables. Also the settings in wd (com, station, etc.) as Dan says allready. However it could be an hardware issue from Your weather pc. Sure You have done all this many times, but it is the only way to find out the problem.

PS: Happy Birthday Dan :occasion6: 50 candles!
what does it say across the top of the WD program?
does the data received light flash at all?
also try other com port numbers, in case windows has changed them around, etc
(and check out the ball point mouse issue in the FAQ)
OK, nevermind I guess.
I had used device manager to make sure that everything was set correctly and was the right com port. I made sure WD was set correctly. Still nothing.
Out of sheer boredoom I tried every USB port on my computer and magically found one that works. I have no explanation and it still does not work on its original com port that is on the motherboard.
I am going to not touch it and hope for the best. You have GOT to love computers with stuff like this.
Thank you for the ideas, this place is still great…
