1-Wire La Crosse rain gauge

Hello,

I have a 1-wire La-Crosse rain guage. On the setup page for the rain guage you indicate it’s 0.02 of an inch per tip, however from www.aagelectronica.com they say it’s 0.01 per tip? Is this just a label typo?

John

the la crosse gauge should be 0.55mm per tip,so,that is 0.02 inches per tip
maybe we need to look up the specifcs of that guage?
do you have a model number?
maybe check on the la crosse or dealer web site?

I had to increase the rainfall offset by 68% with my converted LaCrosse gauge to get it to agree with my Oregon gauge, and my manual rain gauge.

that would mean its even less likely to be 0.3mm per tip (which wd is setting as 0.5mm per tip)
?

Hello,

The rain guage is, “La Crosse Technology WS-7048U Wired Rain Gauge + 1-Wire TAI8585LCR KIT”

http://www.aagelectronica.com/aag/index.html?target=p_35.html&lang=en-us

John

The LaCrosse web site is no help. All they say is it’s resolution is .1 mm, which is roughly .004 in.
I doubt very much that means it’s .004 in. per tip tho… 8O

edit:
Doing a google search for the rain gauge I see several places that say it is .0105 per tip.

that makes it 0.3mm per tip
but i have it set as 0.5mm per tip, which would mean wd would over read
but you found it was under reading jeep?

yea, strange, huh?

Hello,

Well I have just looked up the details from the LaCrosse web site and as you will see from below, a screen shot from the there website, it’s 0.02 per tip, however the rain full range is from 0.01 to 999.99. So if it’s 0.02 per tip, how can a range start at 0.01 !!!

a ha
i was correct all along, and aag has it wrong

Hello,

But, what is odd, I’m sure, that when we had some rain, WD said 0.01 not 0.02 !

John

I guess what they tell you depends on where you look…

Great…

I have emailed LaCrosse, maybe they can sort it out…

If not how can we calibrate it?

John

Hello,

I have a relpy from LaCrosse,

“The 7048 is .02 per tip and accurate to .02.”

Which means WD is reporting it as 0.01 as you will be able to see from the attached screen shot. We had some rain today and it’s reported it as 0.01 which the device can not measure, as this device can only have a minumin measure of 0.02.

Does this make sense?

John

0.01 in is 0.25mm
but wd , if you have the la crosse gauge selected, increases the rain by 0.5mm, 0.02 inches
so i suggest you might have a rain offset set in the offset screen?
or check you dont have any other 0.25 rain gauge types ticked in the dallas setup
(and restart wd to make sure the correct one is in use)

Hello,

As you will see from the attached image I have the La Cross guage selected, only. It says it’s 0.02 which is correct, so sorry but I must be to be thick :-), but should that not then lead to the graph/min measurement being 0.02 and not 0.01?

John

BTW: No offest, set

humm
strange…
as with that setting, wd should be increasing the rain by 0.5mm (0.02in) at at ime…
see what shakes loose as you get more rain

I have had more rain, and it looks to me if it’s incrumenting at 0.01" not 0.02"

Hello,

As the tick box setup for the La Crosse, seems to be 0.01 of an inch per tip instead of 0.02 per tip should I select the 0.25mm per tip rain guage?

John
