Tomorrow I am going for a serial board. The solar sensor arrived from hobby boards today, and as soon as I plugged it in, my outdoor hum jumped to 100%!
So a warnig! Be prepared fo 1001 questions on getting the solar sensor set up correctly! 8O
make sure you view the archive messages on the solar sensor setup .
just a tip for the the solar sensor .
The solar sensor resistor 390 ohm can be changed out for a variable resistor ( 1 k ohm ) - the higher this value the more sensistivity you get .
you can fine tune the solar sensor in service .
also your’ll need to add a diffuser len over the photo-diode . The viewer angle of the photodiode is less than 180 degrees ( the diffuser helps )
Hi Jeep
I have a couple of spare Lens caps (diffuser) for the hobby board solar sensor you are welcome to one if you like just send reply address in personal email, I will mail you one.
Cheers John
Thank You much again, John!
Well, went and got a serial board today. 4 ports, and is able to send 5 or 12 volts of extra power through the ports by pluggin in a floppy disk power cable into the serial card. Installed it and we’re up and running! Finally! Have not got the soloar sensor connected yet, but will be up on the roof doing that tomorrow. Funny thing is, I STILL have to run AAG’s baro program to initialize the baro before WD will get actual, variable readings. If I just start WD, it reads the baro, but the values never change…
I found I had / have that problem too. I have a feeling I know what is actually causing it. The cable I was using to go into the connectors in the solar sensor was rather thin. I went out and bought some thicker cable similar to the cable that comes with the rain gauge and plugged that into the solar sensor. Then I used some connectors that connect the two wires together and put silicon on the connectors to prevent them getting wet.
I have a feeling that the data / voltage is not correctly getting through and or the connectors don’t properly connect using the thiner telephone or cat5 cable. Mine has been running for a few hours and I haven’t had any problems with my humidity sensor.
Yes, its a real pain to have to go and edit the log files to correct the errors.
