WS-2010 Indoor Sensor Does Not Update

have a WS-2010 weather station. Recently, the wireless indoor sensor seems to update very erratically, usually every several hours or usually longer. The LaCrosse monitor/receiver seems to update OK for the indoor data, but the Weather Display software for the indoor values do not update on my computer. When I check the status on WD, the message says “indoor sensor has an error.” All the other sensors work fine and show an OK status. I have already put new batteries in the indoor sensor, and waited awhile before I re-started Weather Display, but this did not work either. The PC Interface had new batteries about a month ago. Does anyone have any idea why the indoor data is not being updated in WD?

Are you sure you are getting good data from the Lacrosse data logger? I have the same weather station as you and the logger is very sensitive, even more sensitive then the base station. Try moving the logger around until you get good data from all sensors. Also move logger far away from computer and electronic devices. It is really about trial and error. Sometimes my sensors don’t work for no apparent reason. I don’t think the Lacrosse data logger is a well designed thing. Brian has also recommended getting and RF Choke and placing that on the data logger cord. I have did that and that seems to help. I don’t think it is the WD software, but I bet it is the lacrosse system.

hi
the indoor data is the actual touch button console screen…
so, yes, try moving the separate data logger closer to the console screen maybe , if you can (and then hopefully not upsetting the reception of other sensors)

I use the same device and it also stops reading sensors (all sensors, not just one, but not all at the same time).
I wrote to LaCrosse about that problem and they answered me: place the datalogger as far as the cord permits from a computer. Overhere thats a bit of a problem because there are 8 computers, monitors, printers etc.
It is indeed trial and error and the datalogger is now on top of my monitor and gives me there almost no problems.
Nevertheless I think it is a strange kind of design that a computer datalogger could not be placed near a computer! I don’t know much about electronics but it seems very strange to me and I think it should be possible to design a device that can be placed near a computer.
Probably it will have to use another frequency.
When I gave LaCrosse that remark I never received an answer anymore.

So the only think I can say is: give it a try and keep on trying till it works, it seems to be possible.

Thanks for the information. I moved the indoor sensor to a location much closer to the computer, and all works ok now. I had already put the data logger as far from the computer as the cord would allow. The suggestion works!

thats good
the other thing to do is extend the serial cable from the datalogger, so it can be moved to a better location too.
Its good la crosse are telling people these tidbits, as I have told them about this important sitting info for years
(which i have gleamed from users experimenting)

Mine still goes fine for a week or 2…and then I end up having to reset one (usually the outside temp) or more of the sensors.
If I had it to do over again, I am starting to lean towards the wired route.
But as it is im stuck with this one, so i’ll just keep plugin along.
The thing that worries me the most…when I get my wind sensor 15 ft up on a pole…if it needs a reset…I gotta get up that pole to pull the magnet out =)
It’s great when this system works, but it can be a pain when it starts to give error reports. On a good note, you start to learn the little quirks this system has.
So many things they could have done to make it less of a guessing, sensor strength reception on the console, and a battery strength indicator on the console as well…would help a lot.

Actually since this post above, i’ve had to reset the outdoor sensor yet again…starting to think the battery is low…once again…so the fix for that is to pull the magnet and let the battery recharge for 3 days =( according to Lacrosse.

Sask-

How long have you had your La Crosse Station? I have had problems with mine before but I have never pulled the magnets out to reset any of the sensors. Are you sure your data logger isn’t the problem? Does your data still show up on your console? Whenever I have flat lined in the past I just move the data logger just a bit and it seems to work, or I just wait it out and they come back to life. I was just curious about the resetting that you do. I would be in trouble if I would ever have to get to my wind sensor. It is mounted on a six foot pole on my two story house. It was a challenge to mount.

About 3 months now. The only sensor I really have trouble with is outdoor sensor …more then anything.
And yes the console still picks it up.
I’ll just keep playing with, move the PC interface aroundmore…and really think hard about buying the data relay device.
I just get upset when I see the flatline’s happening. No biggy I guess.
Trial and error…trial and error =)

Well, after some trouble shooting over the past couple of months LaCrosse has come to the conclusion the sensor is bad (WS 2010-25 outdoor sensor).
Sending them this bad one…and they will send me a replacement

That sounds right. It seemed strange that you had to take the magnet out. I have had mine for over a year and never had to reset it that way. At least they are willing to send a replacement.

  1. HAve a La Crosse ws2010 - have always had problems getting data from the wind and rain units - any bit of rain on the roof affected the signal.

Bit the bullet and got a repeater - end of problems - as la Crosse agreed the data logger receiver is crap without a repeater :frowning:

good to see you are still with us brent!
and things should be better with the latest versions that i have going better with the ws2010 station, so thats good

  1. I never had a problem with Weather-Display - apart from so many options -

Still have to do lunch some time

well, if you are ever over my way, pop in for a visit Brent…we are moving though…to Grahams beach road
