With help it is all possible - High from the North of Scotland

Hi from Munlochy near Inverness and Loch Ness in the Scottish Highlands UK.

The challenge I set myself starting from absolute zero in 2015 was to set up a complete weather station and a weather website using equipment and knowledge obtained along the way, but without borrowing any data or images from other websites, such as satellite images, forecasts and synoptic charts.

My website was started from a blank white sheet with no templates. The software I used for my website was WYSIWYG Web Builder 12, but the key was WD and this forum. This forum has solved a lot of issues both from past posts and direct questions. There is also a great community out there of people willing to help and I have contacted several people from here directly and have always had helpful answers including people and companies willing to share their programme scripts for altering.

There is one piece of advice I would like to offer as I think it is overlooked by a lot of armature weather enthusiasts and this can be seen by looking at adjacent weather station on many of the weather reporting websites and that is, regular maintenance and re-calibrating equipment. WD is great for adjusting equipment variables digitally. For this reason, I have manual equipment to test the accuracy of my automatic stations.

I am always looking to improve my equipment and website and any comments would be most welcome.

good to see use of the custom screen (i think that is what you have used for the summary gif image?)

Gary,

now that is a helluva great website. And sources. Would love to have a setup like yours - and of course, the time and money (equipment etc) to go whole hog.

No ties to Scotland (since circa 1824), but I’ve book marked your site/.

A job well done.

Thanks Brian,

Yes, I learnt how to construct the summary gif from one of your excellent How To Videos.

Thanks Ken,

Guess I am fortunate and able to source the equipment and have the time, but there is a second-hand market out there for most pieces of equipment and some people really inspire me because they make their own equipment. Have a look at Michaels site Weather-Above - Live weather data for Cheddleton Michael helped me with one of my projects. Great guy.
