jwwd, I use LogMeIn from work behind whatever firewalls and restrictions and it works fine. As Tim said it is very easy to setup and can be accessed via a browser. I believe all I had to setup was two passwords.

Hi
I have now tried LogMeIn from work and it works great.
Just one question - can I make my WX computer automatic log in to LogMeIn ?
I restart the WX computer every night, but dont know what happens to LogMeIn.
Best regards,
JWWD
I don’t shut down very often but during the microsoft induced shut downs LogMeIn always starts up. I don’t do anything with it. I just see an icon in the Task Bar.

Hi daveq
Ok - i will give it a try when i get home from work. Or I could try an restart my WX pc here from work
Well, I guess I’ll have to try a VNC product. It appears the web filter at the office blocks logmein.com because it is a proxy.
Doh…
Scary the first time you try it because you don’t know if it will work. I’ve only had to shut it down once but it worked fine that time. Good luck. I know it’s worked very well for me.

Would you really want an auto login could be dangerous if sombody decides that they want to play!!
Steve
Yes i know.
Its only once a year when im at vacation for a week.
But if you don’t have auto login how does your WD PC restart after a power failure?
I think he means if I want to autologin to “LogMeIn”
By the way - I just tried to restart my WX PC from work - everything works fine - LogMeIn starts together with Win XP and I could after restart connect to my WX Pc from work via LogMeIn.
Oops!
It doesn’t auto log you in to the remote computer. I was saying, or trying to say, that LogMeIn starts up when the computer reboots.
To use you must log in to the LogMeIn web site, you choose which computer you want to access, then when connected you log in to that computer using a different password.

Sorry…yes correct auto login to remote pc with LogMein
But even auto login to your desktop on boot up holds it dangers especially if its an admin user and your pc can be accessed from the web. Restricted user maybe would be safer…as for me always paranoid dont want anybody on my network where they would have access to other pc’s all be it with difficulty but possible once in…everybody has to login who ever they are. The advantage with VNC is that you can have it running as a service nobody needs to be logged in you would just see the login screen if you looked at the pc’s monitor, so even after reboot you just login with VNC start everything and you are still secure. What price security ? maybe a couple of hours of data but for me its worth it to know my network is relatively secure, 99% of the time I am on the network when the weather server is rebooted and the once in a blue moon event like a power cut whilst I am at work, happened this week, I live with the loss, server had been on for almost 3 months until this week.
Anyway rambling but maybe food for thought…
Steve
