I am new to WD and have a Lacrossed 2310 wireless. The only problem I am having is the rate at which WD is calculating the average wind speed. It is aroun 10-20 seconds between updates from the sensor to the station and WD appears to be calculating it’s wind avg on ever read it take from the station. Is this correctable or am I just overlooking something? Tkx
hi
are you using the wireless option?
sounds like it…
so that means you only get a reading every 12 to 15 seconds, etc?
yes, what wd is doing is calculating the average from the last 5 current readings…
that works best for faster updates
i am not sure if there actualy an average speed in the data…been a while since i looked at the ws2310 stuff
does the console have average (as opposed to current/gust) on the console?
The 2310 has current, min/max. No average. And yes I am using the wireless and the manual says it updates every 16 to 120 seconds depending on wind speed and rainfall rate. The wired shows to update every 8 seconds but that isn’t an option at this time. My observations show it updates at least once every 15 - 20 seconds.
ok
so, are you ok now?
Actually, what I want to do is refine the accuracy of the average wind speed. Is the rate at which the averaging occurs adjustable? Or is there any way around this problem?
i.e would you like it that if wireless operation that the average is calculated over a shorter amount of data period?
(i.e like only the last 2 current windspeeds instead of the last 5?
Here is the dilema… I see when the data received light shows it is polling the station. It is possible that the the same wind speed could be logged in 2 different transmissions from the collector. It would seem to me that if you could adjust the interval at which the software retrieves the data from the station, that would be the easier fix. If my logics holds.
actualy you are right in your assumption
thats what i need to do…slow it down if a wireless connection
to say every 16 seconds?
Let me do some timings real quick and I’ll try to give as precise a number as possible.
Would it be possible to make the time between pollings a variable? If not, I’ll try to get a set number for you.
maybe as the windspeed increases, increase the polling?
(or something along those lines)
i actualy do that with weather hawk
We could give that a shot. The manual suggests that the frequency of updates is relative to the wind speed. The book shows 16-128 seconds.
i have added a tick for if running a ws2310 as wireless in the weather station type now, and the polling rate increases in speed as the wind gets stronger…over 20 knots its set a everey 6 seconds (as it will need to be that fast becuase it cycles through the sensors, the windspeed is cycled the most often)
in a new 10.13x beta
uploading now
it will be ready to download in an hour or less
check the time stamp of the file on the download page
sunday afternoon here, i need a break
Thanks alot. I’ll give it a shot and let you know how it works. Great program btw… And tech support… SUPERB! Thanks again.
After observing the change, it seems that it has gone too far on the other end. It’s taking too long most of the time to poll the station. After doing some testing, I think that polling every 30 seconds on wireless is the best you can do without know precisely the scale at which the 2310 updates. Thanks again.
my bad
i had an extra 0 in the timer interval
uploading a fix as a new 10.13x now
will be ready in an hour or less (check the time stamp on the download page)
thanks
I am testing the new version now. It seems to be better but I’ll keep an eye on it. I found the following on the transmission intervals on the 2310 ---- 32 sec (if wind factor>22.36 mph) or 128sec (if wind factor< 22.36mph) 10 minutes (if the base station fails to receive any data after 5 attempts in a row, all outdoor data readings will display “—”, except for the rain value)
It is working better but I do notice that in relation to what I am seeing on the station itself, WD is updating too infrequently. Can this be adjusted to something a little closer to the scale in my previous post? If not, can it be set to a fixed 30 sec. interval? Thanks.
