Wind Sensor Placement

I would like to get ideas for placement of my wind sensor. Right now I have it on a fence only 3 feet off the ground and know it is not the ideal location. I would like to put up a mast somewhere on my property and want to find the right place/hardware. Does anyone have experiences to share? Pictures? :?: Thanks all.

Weather Display software is the best, thanks Brian!

Here’s a pic of the way I ended up mounting mine. All the hardware is from Radio Shack.

I used tripods with 3 foot rods through the feet and well… you can see above,’

If the site is a bit slow, I am updating some things on it. Adding a page . and doing monthly data.

Yup, 2 5’ sections. It wasn’t easy to get mounted, but it came out pretty good.

If you go to the picture gallery on my weather web page, the first 5 pictures will show you the original and current mounts. Original mount was steel radio shack antenna pole about 5 feet long. Second was a 10 foot and a 6 foot length of 1 1/4 galvanized pipe with a coupling from Home Depot. I used 8 inch radio shack brackets bolted THROUGH the side of the house. Also put in a big copper ground wire.

Thank you aardvark and rpreuss for sharing your set up. I assume the Cu grounding wire is to ground a lightning strike. Good idea. With these high mounts do you ever have to get to the anometer for cleaning etc? I will share my set up when it

IF you are going to mount it against the house, garage , or similar building, then an cu ground is very important to have.

As far as getting it down, you have to give consideration on how you will do so if you need to maintain it. Perhaps when you decide on a mount you will “build” in some provision - i.e. a telescoping tube or perhaps the mountings will allow for occasional removal.

I had that issue come out when my anenometer conked out and had to bring the mast down. :?
