try deleting the datafiles direction.inf and direction2.inf
and then see if it starts to work again
It started working again about 15 minutes after I installed 10.17z. I didn’t do anything (that I know of) other than trying to import the Sep log file from the data I downloaded from wunderground. Will monitor it and if it acts up again I will try your recommendation.
If I would just leave things alone…I looked at the real time graphs and all the wind data is there, so, I decided to try your recommendation and delete the direction files. I then tryed to convert the log file and ended up with another flat line for wind direction. So I restored the direction files, did another convert, and still have flat line for wind direction. It takes a few minutes to start reading and correctly reporting the wind direction.
Is there a way to import the wind direction data? The convert log file doesn’t appear to do anything with the wind direction. Why would the data show good in the real time graphs but not on the main WD display?
Dan
Installed 10.18a and again, the wind direction is flat lined. When I view graph history all the data is there, but not on the main WD display. Is there some setting that prevents WD from displaying the direction history when restarting WD???
Dan
not sure what is going on here…i have not seen this myself…what grpahing interval do you have set, under the graph setup?
also, check the time stamp on the direction2.inf file is up to date…and or any errors under view, program error log./.
and zip and email me your datafiles latest.inf and direction2.inf
24 hour graph interval is set.
direction2.inf timestamp is ok.
No errors reported in the last few days in programerrorlog.txt.
Sending you the files as requested.

Brian,
Attempting this solution at this time.

I am having the same problem with flat wind direction. I tried the AAG test program and it shows the direction swinging all over the place as is normal here. Went on the roof to make sure things were working. Checked the date stamp as described above and all looks fine. Tried deleting the two data files as described above. Still not working.
I have tried every version since 17y (first download).
The wind direction dial on WD and graph shows only slight deflections around the N. See 12hourgraph.jpg
One interesting thing is that I get a different graph when I right click and say show 24 hour graph See 24hourgraph.jpg. But, even the 24hour graph does not show as much direction change as is true.
this is a different issue altogether
i have been waiting to see if anyone else has what dcrooks has
what you are seeing looks OK to me
WD averages the wind direction…so it looks to be doing a good job, yes?
alslo, wd does try to be smart and tries to center the wind direciton data…it has done that in the 24 hour graph
that looks good and OK to me
Yes, looks different. When my graph is flat lined, it is completely flat.
When I re-start WD the graph is flat. However, it does read input and update correctly from that point.
Upon the next re-start of WD it is flat again and starts updating again.
Just re-started WD and the graph is flat again. Deleting the files had no effect.

Brian, it appears I am the only one with this problem. If you could email me the dataflow and filenames I will start looking for a problem on my end. It might just be a file permission thing under XP. Currently running 10.18j created Oct 22 @ 10:23:47.
Did some checking, these 2 files are only located in my recycle bin. WD never re-created them after I deleted them…was WD suppose to re-create new files?
hi
yes sir
wd should recreate those files after you restart wd
i will do some checking
is there any error under view, program error log when you restart wd?
yes, no other reports of this
I re-started WD about 1.5 hours ago and the program error log is empty.
email me your settings file, there must be something in that
wdisplay.ini
from c:\windows or c:\winnt
on the way now…
Happy to report this problem is corrected.
Due to end-of-month problem crashing of WD, and, in an attempt to narrow down the problem, I moved my WD software to another computer. As part of the move required copying the wdisplay.ini file as it contains all the historical data. In the move of the wdisplay.ini file, not all file locations in the file updated to reflect the new install directory. (Note: Using the default location during installs is a good thing…). The datafiles “direction.inf” and “direction2.inf” were not updating. After deleting them WD should have re-created them, but it didn’t. The wdisplay.ini contained directory locations from the original machine that was NOT installed to the default location.
The fix was, under setup, extra/misc settings, click on “New Datafiles Location” button. It defaulted to the NEW correct location, I then hit the save button. The datafiles noted above were created and I now retain the wind direction data after re-starting WD.
Thanks Brian for helping me find and repair this problem. As always, your support is the best!
