Webcam stops working at night

I just install my new webcam (Logitech Quickcam Messenger). Everything works fine during the day. I get images, they update on my webpage, no problems.

At night, when it gets dark, the image is dark (obviously). In the morning, when the sun comes back up though, the image stays dark. I am having to go back into the webcam image and click on the setup/view webcam live web cam capture, and click on start (Don’t know the exact buttons to click. I am not at home.) Once I do that, the live image goes from dark to live.

Also, when I look at the “view web cam image from during the day”, I get a picture up until 7:00 pm, where there is no picture until about 3:00 am, when the picture is dark again. Finally, the images are being created and time stamped, so I do know the program is trying to get this to work.

Any suggestions on what I may be doing wrong?

Take a look at this thread. Look for Windy’s post with a view of the web cam setup (at bottom of thread).

Good Luck

now i do know of one other person with this, but trhy tracked it down to playing
Microsoft Trainsimulator each night by the looks!
otherwise, i am not sure, execpt there is a tick under web cam uploads, for day time only…check there in the ftp/itnernet setup
the web cam images from during the day:
it stops as per yuour time of sunset
do you have your lat/long set correct, under view, sun moon?

I do have latitude and longitude set. It seems like it may be a night issue, but I do not think I have that box checked. If it is checked, does it stop after the sunset time and start after the sunrise time? Sunrise is set for 6:15, and I think I started looking at the camera at about 6:20 this morning.

Finally, is there a way in a custom page to not have webcam picture show at night? Right now I have a link to the picture in a table on my webpage.

Under FTP/Internet Setup, Web Cam Setup,
If

humm…
its sort of possible to have wd not put the link to the web cam image at night time on a custom page…
but you could just put the words, if its black, its night time!
or, use the option to use the web cam upload times, and not upload at night, so the black image does not appear on the web page, as captdilli correctly states

 I like that! If it is dark, it is nighttime.

I have used that. I had one someone call me one night to complain that the web cam view was black. I told him to look below the view. He reported,
