Finally got around to hooking up my webcam and have a couple of questions.
If I setup the webcam, using the vendor supplied software, does WD use the same settings for brightness, exposure, etc.? If not, is there a way to adjust the webcam from WD to achieve the best results?
I can’t seem to get tags working to overlay data on my image. Is there a secret to getting the labels to show on the image?
I tried moving the date/time and temp around on the image using the x/y and nothing seemed to make a difference. I assume you have to tick the box that says “Show a label” but is there anything else?
I switched to the jpg file and the image looks a lot better. The webcam.jpg file is bigger than the gif, but looks better on the web page.
The tags seem to be working now, I have no idea what changed. At first I thought there was a line length limit as I had temp, wind, and custom label in use and the custom label was chopped off, but now they appear as expected.
The x/y function doesn’t always effect the image as expected. I set the x axis to 300 and y axis to -1 and kept adjusting the x axis until I had the tag located on the image where I wanted it. Then I adjusted the y axis and all appears as desired.
On the web cam image menu page, there is an option that says
“Use a jpg image for the web image at graph time”
If this is ticked, will it produce a “dailywebcam.jpg” instead of “dailywebcam.gif”
(also the dailywebcam2.xxx file)? Or does this option perform some other function?
The gif’s look bad and thought maybe making a jpg would look better on the webpage.
One other thing I have noticed is the timestamped gifs are accumulating in my save directory specified in WD on the “Setup/view direct live web capture” page. I specified a “File name to use (e.g. c:\ccam\webimage.gif)” and also I specified and ticked “Create a jpg image as well”. Both of these files are created in the same directory along with the “Create time stamped web cam files, and animated image files (recommended)” and the files are not being managed by WD. Is this normal behavior for WD to leave these orphaned files eating up harddrive space? Or do I need to tick something in WD to clean these files up daily?
to produce a jpg image, be time stamped or not, you need to have that set in either the web cam capture, or the 3rd party web cam setup page…
i.e tick to produce jpg image, and set the name (full directory path and name) of the jpg file
the time stamped files, if you have ticked to produce each minute, will start overwriting each other, as there is no date as part of the time stamp, but there will be 1440 images, and if jpg as well, thats 2880 images !
but the file size is not too big…anmd HD’s these days have heaps of storage space (whew)

I have jpg working for the webcam picture displayed on my web site.
I wanted to try to have the files “dailywebcam.gif” and “dailywebcam2.gif” be created as jpg’s instead of gif’s.
Aren’t these 2 files created by WD as each individual web cam image is produced? I assumed since these files are already formatted and produce, insert, and upload, an image every 30 minutes that WD was handling the format of the files :?:

[using 10.12z and WD is using the webcam driver to produce all images]
Sorry to cause a fuss Brian. I do appreciate the great WD program and all the built-in functionality. The software that came with my Davis WMII, called weatherlink, doesn’t come close to what I get with WD. And I will add that your support is fantastic. Again, thanks for all your effort to code WD.
i had a quick look
its going to be quite straight forward actualy, from the way i designed it
i will see if i can do it 2 nite
( i am on dinner duty at the moment!)
