I would always go for a Linux host as this is usually better at supporting PHP etc and graphics for things like JPGraph. Also IMHO Linux is usually more robust and reliable and less likely to have problems with virii etc.

and a linux based server handles file renames better too
Unless you have a specific requirement to run some Windows based web software, e.g. ASP.Net, etc, then you’re probably safer going for a a Linux based service. My own weather site, this forum and the MML system run on Linux servers.
