Web Cam

Web Cams, I would think, are not very weather proof. What do any of you use to protect the cam from the rain etc? At the moment I have my cam wrapped in thin plastic wrap but there must be something a lot better.
Thank you

I have mine located under to roof over-hang. Keeps it semi-protected unless the rain is blowing sideways

There are enclosures you can buy, but they aren’t cheap. Here’s one idea:

Runs about $129 US.

Before I bought a waterproof webcam I put an ordinary USB webcam into a waterproof box with a clear lid like this one from Maplin in the UK http://www.maplin.co.uk/Module.aspx?ModuleNo=25154&TabID=1&source=15&WorldID=3&doy=2m11 Cheap and it worked well.

A regular USB cam behind the window… the problem seems to be the sunlight, that does burn the sensor. I’ve an vario-light glass that does filter the UV and becomes dark with the sun to protect the cam:

That sounds useful - where can you get it from?

Interesting

Thanks all for the ideas.

Looks like the samples of photochromic sunglass lens material that opticians use to sell you on the product

Exactly that, buyed for 6

Mine is below the roof overhang. It’s inside in a home-made wooden box looking like a bird “house”.
No problem since one year. Keep the cable away from birds. They like to cut them.
