Weather talk

I turned on weather talk a couple weeks ago. I could use some more configuration. IE it says 23% but does not say humidity , I know what it is but someone else might not figure it out. I also says daily rain is 0.000 Maybe some other tags IE solar, forecast. I checked the box for .mp3 but it does not not create the file in the webfiles folder ,not sure it is creating it at all. The .wav file is in the WD directory.

You can create a custom file and use whatever words & tags you want too.
I’ve attached an example below for you to try.

Download this file into the WD Webfiles folder and keep it named at customtalking.txt.
Open the WeatherTalk page from the Control Panel and click the “Custom Settings” tab. Turn on the “Custom Speech” and “Custom File” buttons.
Now go back to the Main Settings tab and turn on the “Talk” & “File” buttons and then click the “Test” button to hear the output.

Note: You may have to mis-spell some words in the text to get the voice to sound right, you’ll notice Wind is spelt “Whind” in the file I made.

customtalking.txt (411 Bytes)

The mp3 file speaks at half speed or slower than the .wav I change the time and tried to get the file output to do the same thing as the speaking and it quit working all togeater… Every time I anything in the configuration it stops responding and has to be forced closed…

I’ve had chance to play around with Weather Talk and understand it a bit better now.

As well as the “customtalking.txt” file, you also need another text file with the same contents called “customtalkingfile.txt”. So you can either open the customtaking.txt file and do a “Save As” or just open a new text file, copy & paste the text from customtakling.txt into the new file and save it in the WD Webfiles folder as “customtalkingfile.txt”.

My setup is giving me the same voice speed on the .wav as it does on the mp3, you can hear it on my homepage by clicking on the banner at the bottom of this post and looking in the Current Conditions section.

The only controls I found were on the Weather Talk Main Settings page, bottom right where you can adjust the pitch of the speech on the MP3 file, mine is set to 7900hz (I think the default is 8000hz). There is also “Fast Voice Freq” setting on the “Times” page in the settings, I haven’t tried this so I don’t know what it does but mine is not enables and default frequency is 1.

On the subject of times, I have the voice and file update frequency set to 5 minutes on each, but the voice file upload and voice speak times are set to 15 minutes.

If you still have problems then deleted the mp3 file completely and let it start a fresh. If that doesn’t work then post screenshots of the three Weather Talk setup screens and I’ll check them against what I have.

Note:
I’m also going to move this thread into the WD Questions part of the forum as there isn’t really a feature suggestion here.

A bit modified from what Brian posted. More added to it and I took my station name and scott’s changing it to the stationname tag so it is more generic for every one. You will have to have the station name set in you settings (it is used in the monthly files) noaa and forecast set up to use those tags, a UV/Solar set up for those tags, if you don’t you can remove/change those parts.

I got it to start talking again. I changed the time to talk to 8 to 0 and it stopped, changing it back to 8 - 23 and it started talking again… I turned off the mp3 creation. One of the problems I have is if i open one of the other tabs, Times or Custom Setup they open a new window and selecting OK does not close it. If you close it with the X and reopen the Weather Talk from the control panel it will open the last tab opened instead of the Main Settings until you close WD.

It shouldn’t do that, there should be tabs across the top of the window and you can flick from one to another.

From the forum info, it looks like you’re using Windows 10, is it 32 or 64 bit and do you have WD in it’s own folder on the C: drive (not in the Program File (x86) folder)?

It is on a win10 , wd is on a second D: hard drive I dont know if it is 32 or 64 bit

Windows up time: 1 Days 15 Hours 21 Minutes 45 Seconds
amount of free memory on the pc, GB: 5.51GB
current amount of memory used by WD: 545,200 K
current CPU use 40%
Time of next Update/Upload: 3:50 pm
Time/date WD was started: 5:35:59 PM 5/17/2020
Data from station received count 31182
The reception of the data from the ISS status: 22002 0 0 22002 0
The current % reception: 100%

That’s quite a lot of memory WD is using, 545.2 MB. My own version of WD is only using 126.6 MB.

If you right click on the taskbar at the bottom of the screen, then click on “Task Manager” from the pop-up list. It should open a new window on the “Processes” tab.
What at the totals at the top of the CPU & Memory columns?

I’m just wondering if your PC is getting close to it’s memory capacity?

Also, what else are you running within WD? WebcamCapture, I know you’re running Weather Talk , are you uploading to the likes of CWOP, Wunderground, PWSweather etc and is WD creating and uploading any large files for your website?

It may also be worth doing a search of the forum for others who have experienced high memory usage to see what they did to reduce it.

cwop, weather underground not doing real time any more, pws, I tried windy but don’t think it is working. Weather talk just started a couple weeks ago. I just bought a security camera I think I can use for web cam, but just got it yesterday so it is not set up yet. the power cord is only 5 feet…

Weather display (32 bit) (2) 1.5% cpu not doing anything at the moment, 113.8 mb memory, it just jumped ti 26.2 cpu usage

just noticed there are 3 instances of clentrawrealtimeftp.exe running in the background .5mb memory each
WDFTP jumped up it is uploading to the site 66 mb of memory 49% of memory used. After ftp WD jumped to 26.4 cpu usage
