I have a Weather Picture, its great to see the numbers across the room. My output goes to a phone multi-tap, the data is than split to drive the weather picture, computer, and another weather picture. I think I have the unit in data-logging with WD in long data format. It has been working great for a long time and I have learned if it is not broke don’t fix it. It took a while to get things working and I have not messed with any of the settings since.
According to the docs the TNC (packet) mode only outputs data every 5 minutes, and contains all the data. Each packet contains all current values plus the highest wind speed over the past 5 minutes with the associated direction, the 3 hour barometer change, station calibration numbers (what the heck does that mean?), and the current date & time.
Now I am wondering if the Weather Picture needs to be setup to correctly display the desired data. It might require an Ultimeter station to configure it…
in the tnc out in wd, you can set 1 minute output rate (and I can make a whole new setup for the weather picture and have it update faster)
and you can set the baud rate there too
also it sounds like the weather picture does accept the data logging mode, which is what the tnc out in wd outputs
Just wanted to close out this thread. Peet Bros replied to my email and here is what they said:
The weather picture will not work in packet mode.It will cause error 3 to be displayed. Only data logger or complete record will work.
I decided not to purchase the weather picture because space will be at a premium in the new abode. I do think the weather picture will work with WD so if anyone decides to try it please post a follow-up to this thread.
- Buy a WiFi picture frame.
- Allow it to pick up pictures from your WD PC.
- Create an image from WD that displays the info you want and put it in the folder that the frame looks in.
You won’t get the display changing every few seconds, but you could probably get updates every 15 seconds. I’m doing this with the WD main GIF image as one of the cycling images on my frame. So every couple of minutes I get to see the info from WD.
1) Buy a WiFi picture frame.
I like this idea. Definitely going to have to look into it. I’ve been trying to figure out an easy way to get graphics from my weather computer visible in other locations.
