Weather Display and the WM918 - a good combo?

Hi guys, as you all know I am very disapointed with my LS2310…however, I have found a WM918 Station on the net for 150 USD plus freight to NZ charges. Iwas wondering how these units interface with the Weather Display software and if there is any conflicts/configuration issues? :?:

Cheers all…
Andrew

Wow - sounds like an excellent price!
Why can’t I find deals like that…

It may be a good price, but hasn’t that model been discontinued? Which will probably mean very little if any support or spares when things go wrong. :frowning:

Although in saying that there is certainly a large user base out there with those units.

I thought it had been discontinued too, but I have visited the manufacturers website and read a stack of reviews and they have just released what appears to be a new version of the WM918…check out the Oregon Scientific site for more details…they are selling them for 169 US on special!! Seems a reasonable price and the reviews seem OK for what you get. Obviously it is not a high end WS, but it would certainly be better than what I currently have…

Hi
I have four WM918 stations in use, one for more than 4 years. 8O
I have never had a hardware failure. :o
For the price they are an excellent station 8)
If you want things like Solar sensor, or extra temp sensors then I have
added them via the Dallas 1-Wire system on a DS9097 adapter in the other Com port.

Thanks for the feedback Leo, I am very disapointed in my LaCrosse unit…so far I have replaced all the cabling (shielded UTP) and reset the console with and without batteries…also have removed batteries from the hyro unit…so far nothing. a replacement interface lead is on its way from Australia from WDU to try, andif that fails I will return the weather station for a credit. I have searched around on the WM918 and it seems to have reasonably good reviews. I was interested in wether WD ran well with the system? How does it go in your experience?

Cheers mate.
Andrew

Hi

I have used a WM918 for approximately 2 years with no hardware problems  . As Leo said, extra sensors can be added if you are using WD. I have a lightning detector linked via a labjack and am currently sorting out a solar sensor (Dallas 1 wire).

hi
the wm918 was the first station supported by WD…
actualy used by Team NZ in the first defence of the americas cup, from a weather station sited at Muriwai, way back in 1999
so, yes , it works great with WD

Hi Andrew, what particular part are you looking for, just the cabling or sensor?? we have tone of accessories for the La Crosse Weather Stations here in NZ. WS2310 model was only designed for the US Market.

Andrew
Not sure of your still debating a WM918, I can recommend these as I have had mine running for 4 years.
If you want to see it in action I’m 20k’s North of you, think you have my email address, if not [email protected]

Hi there OTDRMN, interestingly I have just moved from helensville to the RNZAF base at Hobsonville. However, its ironic you posted this now, as my WS2310 anenometer disintegarted in the wind event we are currently experiencing…so yes, I am reconsidering my WX options… I always check your site to comapre with mine, and yours is always excellent! Keep in touch as I’d love to visit one day!

Andrew, I’d seen that you’d moved location but wasnt 100% sure. Pity that your annometer buggered up as today has been awesome for windy conditions
Drop me a line if you want to come up…I’m looking at my whole weather station design at present and will probably be changing the outdoor configuration somewhat

I have a site that does the WMR 968 which is wireless and a cost of $200 US$ delivery is fair at $60. I have had mine set up for a few months now and it runs like a dream. Here is the link
