wdl colors at start-up

hi julian,

when wd-live starts up it shows a white background (loading, configuring). i guess this depends on the defaults in the flash-file. is there any chance to change this background color from white into my regular background site-color? perhaps with a switch in the wdlconfig.xml oder the index.html? would be great … because on a dark website this white doesnt look so nice …

i think it would be possible to create the flash so that it takes the color from the config?!? is that right julian?

That’s a good idea. I’d use this if it was possible. My site has a pale background, but WDL would look really cool if it had exactly the same background.

This may be possible - it’s not as straightforward as it sounds. I’ll have a think.

Julian

Chris, why not change the bgcolor tag in the default index.html? It doesn’t fix the white while loading but once that’s over it’ll match.

would be great if you could do that … would be even a much better solution if one could choose the colors of the text too. but that is a far away wish perhaps for xmas?!?

waiting for the next version of wdlive and wishing you a nice day

I’ve just thought why this won’t work…

You would have to specify the background colour in the config file but that wouldn’t be known until the config had finished loading. Therefore the only background that you could change would be the ‘loading data’ screen which is usually very quick to display if at all.

Julian

hm, julian … now that i think it over … you are right.

first there is the “loading”-screen then the “configuring”. both are white and a part of the flash-file. if any changes to that with the config-file loading make the process slower, we should be happy with the actual status. i thought it would be easier to change that stuff. but i am no flash-guru …

maybe you can find a solution … i have no idea.

I’m not sure I’ve understood this correctly. v3.01 goes through the following stages…

Loading
Configuring
Loading Data
Main display

I can see that data in the config file can’t change the Loading or Configuring displays, but these are only transient. You seem to be suggesting that an entry in the config file could therefore only change the background colour of the Loading Data screen. If you can change the background colour on that page, why can’t you change the background colour on the main display (and any sub-displays)? I’d be happy with a blast of white background as the page loaded, but once the config file had loaded the background changed to my chosen colour.

Yes I think I could possibly change the background colour on the loading data screen but what’s the point of changing the background colour on the main display? Set it to transparent and then it will show whatever is on your html page - image or colour.

Julian

How do I set the main WDL display background to transparent?

Hmmm…how did you do that? Yesterday WDL (3.01) on my site had a white background. This morning it’s using my site background colour :? Is it something to do with the clocks changing overnight?

Did you switch browsers?

There was/is a bug in the original html file that was shipped with WDL that would cause FireFox to not do that.

If Firefox is showing a white box … check the html file for the embed statement…

In the embed statement, make sure you have… wmode="transparent" in it.

No it’s the same browser as yesterday (FF1.0PR). I did change the HTML files yesterday due to the v3.01 upgrade, but I’m sure that I was getting v3.01 with a white background yesterday.

Anyway, I guess I shouldn’t complain because I’ve not got what I wanted!

In the embed statement, make sure you have... wmode="transparent" in it.
I'd left this important parameter out of the html file which affects the transparency for FF/Mozilla/Netscape but I added it to the html for the v3 release.
