WDConsole on Linstation Debian - connection problems

OK - Managed to figure out how to update the linkstation to kernel 2.6.25.6 - Debian Lenny with GlibC version 2.7, hoping that this would sort out the problem with running cronftp and WU.
I’m now in the same hole as Weatherfront in this thread:

with “-bash: ./consolewd: No such file or directory”

I think this might be happening due to this being an ARMEL kernel (http://wiki.debian.org/ArmEabiPort) as using “file” gives:
consolewd# file /bin/ls
/bin/ls: ELF 32-bit LSB executable, ARM, version 1 color=red[/color], dynamically linked (uses shared libs), for GNU/Linux 2.6.14, stripped
SYSV indicating a EABi rather than legacy ABI.

Was a ARMEL version ever created? Is there anything I can do to assist with getting one rigged - the linkstations are pretty straighforward to turn in to Debian machines as there are loads of helpful documents and a strong user forum for them.
I’m a bit stuck on which way to move now as performance for Samba is supposed to be better under Lenny and I can’t see a way of going back to Etch and getting the glibc up to date.
Any ideas gratefully received!
Cheers
