I’m not sure if this is a problem with my unit, cable, or WD so I’ll ask this question here. I have a lacrosse 2310 with direct cable connected. I started to notice that in this 10.03 series, or I just noticed, that WD appears to be getting every other speed reading from the unit. Sitting side by side with the monitor I just missed a wind gust of approx 15mph and it didn’t show up on the WD and also didn’t record as maximum gust last hour, so I have sat here and watched and it doesn’t matter what the speed is, the program gets approx. every other reading. Not sure if this happens with the other data as well, it’s hard to sit and watch the temp or humidity move 8)
The wind and other data is showing up very fast on this lacrosse unit, about every 4 seconds.
Transmission from the console to the PC is not continuous.
The console sends to the PC when it’s done with it’s own
internal housekeeping. Also, serial transmission on the old 9 pin
connector is not the best way to move data anyway.
Hard to believe, in this day and age that USB is not being used instead.
Some new PCs don’t even have the serial port anymore.
You can see the transmission frequency by watching the data received indicator.
I get a couple of console speed readings the same and then miss
one. I do remember WD as being faster at updating than Heavy Weather.
What were your experiences with HW?
So, yes, if the timing is right, you could miss that 15mph reading and
only you will know that it happened. If you’d like to see some huge
gaps, disconnect your wire and go radio.
Watching temperature and humidity is like watching grass grow.
Forgot about the 9pin being slow compared to usb and your right it’s hard to believe in this day and age that they would use a serial connection.
I have a theory on the different versions of the 2310. The manual claims that they update every 8 seconds on a direct connect, but I can see this now happening every 4 seconds with version 12 of the hardware that I got as a replacement because the backlight wasn’t staying on. So maybe they have up’d the speed that the machine recieves the data, but not the speed at which it sends to the computer.
I used HW for a few months until I found WD in late november about the time I recieved my replacement unit, and do remember HW being much slower compared to WD, but this was with the other unit version 11.
Maybe this year they’ll come out with a super weather station that will use usb and go back to the little windcups that don’t freeze up, and also a cure to help me stop staring at the computer screen
hi
WD requests data, but only 1 lot of data (i,.e either temperature or rain or windspee), can be retrieved at a time…
so it asks for current speed, then wind direction, then speed, then temperature, then speed, then humidity
and so on
so, yes, it will miss in between samples…
Wow Brian. That is interesting. Maybe as a feature suggestion (as if you do not get enough of those), the user could set the update times of different elements. Like: speed, speed, speed, speed, temp, speed, speed, speed, direction, speed, speed… etc.
hi
just to clarify a bit more , it actualy does work that way already, i.e the windspeed and direction are requested the most often, and in between the other parameters are requested
