WD Settings Lost?

Yesterday my Win 7 PC “shut down unexpectedly”.
After the restart I had lost all my settings for the Weather Display main page and it had reverted to the default layout.
I would prefer not to have to try to reinvent the settings, colours, fonts etc I had built up over the last few years, if there is any way of recovering the last setup.
There are a number of different .ini files, wdisplay.ini, weatherD.ini etc…are these what I am looking for?
If so, how do I restore them?

Grateful for any help

Chris

It may depend on the Version of WD you are running as the settings were recently changed in where they are stored…

Brian may need to weigh in once we know what version…

Colors and fonts sounds like the registry info :frowning: Have you been using WD’s scheduled backup option?

Thanks for your comments.

I am now on 37Q build 80, but was on build 44 when this happened.

Unfortunately no, I do not have scheduled backup, but do have one done in August 2010.

Do you have a wdisplaybackup.ini file in your install directory?

its recommended to set the auto daily back up
so that then you get a back up of the important settings, like the wdisplay.ini file

if you can find a back up, then use that

also in a recent version a back up of wdisplay.ini is created every 10 minutes

Do you have a Backup Folder? there should be one there in the wdisplay path. If there is a .reg file in there, check the data on it and all it needs is a double click to reset the old settings - note only with WeatherD.exe shut down. Then restart WeatherD and it should have an old/earlier set of configurations back again. There should also be a wdisplay.ini there as well, this carries weather maximums, records etc as well. This would need to be transferred over the top of current one. The backup can also be created through Action - Backup registry now or some such. All of the extremes can be recreated through other processes.

Thanks for the comments.

The only backup in the wdisplay folder is a databackup folder, which contains a wdisplayftp.reg file but that does not appear to restore any of the settings.

I do a weekly backup of my whole system to an external hard drive, using Acronis True Image Home 2010, but am not clear if restoring the wdisplay folder would also restore the registry settings.

Where are the wdisplay settings stored in the registry?

Chris

In the wdisplayftp.reg file. As I said, double clicking on that file would bring the settings back if that was recently saved by the Backup-now action or the daily set backup that is in Control Panel.

Thanks everyone for the ideas and explanations.
I seem to have solved the problem by importing an older wdisplay.ini file from my backup hard drive.

I have also turned on data backup in Control Panel!

Thanks again

Chris
