I have run WD for several months with very little problem. I just installed the SP 2 for Win XP Pro and WD crashes every 8 to 12 hours, maybe sooner, but that is as often as I have been checking it.
Does anyone know if there might be a fix in the works?
Yes. You may try going back to a good restore point before you installed the SP 2 for Win XP Pro. Wait a few weeks before installing the SP 2 for Win XP Pro again.
I just installed SP2 - only been a couple hours now though.
Without even thinking about it, I installed with WD running…probably should have quit it before the install. Anyway, so far so good here.
I agree with CaptDilli - the install makes a restore point for you at the beginning of the installation. Go back, wait some, and try again.
Just another thought…maybe try installing a new version of WD (there usually is one at least once a day it seems). This might straighten it out?
Yes, you have to be sure you have only one firewall running - whether the SP2 one or your aftermarket one. Might be something to check.
Also, if you had WD running the last time you tried it, try exiting WD before you install.
I’ve WD up and running since yesterday 06:00pm without any problems.
It was a fresh installation of WinXP Pro w/o SP and a direct update to SP2 (skipping SP1) after installing WinXP.
WD is running perfectly. I’m always using the latest version (currently 10.17 w/o any a, b or c!).
There’s only the built in firewall active.
After starting WD the first time a warning message appears that some services of WD are blocked. I answered this by pressing the “Allow always and don’t answer again” button so that I think this will never disturb WD doing it’s work!
I’ll report here if I come in any trouble with WD on WinXP Pro SP2!
I have had XP Pro SP2 running for a week now with no problems
but this computer is only a month old so it hasn’t had time to create the
sort of errors that occur over time.
