VP: Sometimes No more data extraction at start of WD

Biran,

when I restart WD, I get in the “data logger setup/info screen”

TIME PERIOD TO SHORT

The shut down period was more than 30 minutes!

THe vptemplog.txt is empty.

This happens since the version from yesterday and in the version from today.

Then I did the same again, i.w. shut down WD, waiting some minutes, restarting it, and it works - strange!

Peter

I thought it was me. Same thing happened yesterday morning. WD had frozen during the night, about 4 hours prior. I re-booted and re-started and WD did not do the extraction.

However, yesterday evening, I had to shut it down for about 20 minutes and that time it did do the extraction ok.

I did not say anything because I did not check, before the first restart, if wdisplay.ini was current or 4 hours old. I would assume it was old, since when WD froze, the time displayed was also 4 hours behind.

This was with version 10.13x production.

it might be that somehow wd is not getting the difference between the old and new times properly
if this happens, check the wdisplay.ini file (in c:\windows or c:\winnt)and check under the [Davis download] section (search for that), and check the times there (i.e which will be the last time wd was running)
reset it back if it has changed to the current time, and then restart wd

Not sure if it is related, but apparently WD quit getting data about 0800 this morning. Didn’t notice until now. (Then I tried the “extract data” option and apparently screwed everything up as I now have NO data.) No errors in the error log. Just no data. Version 10.13x.

that extract data from the VP needs some work…
(i.e dont tick restart wd log/graph files unless you want to start over for the month, etc)

shesh…now you tell me :frowning: Oh well. Seems to be the way I learn a lot of things…

BTW…whatever is wrong just happened again… Not receiving any data. I don’t think I did anything, but I was looking through some of the menues to see if I could find the “clear data logger after download” or whatever it’s called. The thing is flicking by so fast (apparently no data) that I can’t hit the check box. Actually not sure what I have it set for at the moment.

Help?

Sandy

BTW…after restarting the program I seem to be receiving data again

Sandy

I think I found the action that was causing me to quit receiving data from my VP dataloger.

Do Setup - Control Panel - Data Logger setup. Don’t change anything, just look at the screen, then close the box using the “X”. Result = no more data until I restart the program…

Doesn’t happen if I click on the “ok” box.

Such fun.

Sandy

ah, yes, thats becuase the data flow stops, so that you can set the time, get the time, change the data logger interval, etc, when viewing that data logger setup screen

tip:
always use OK or cancel in WD, never the windows X
BUT, I will put a trap in the code to always start the data flowing again in you have closed that window with the X

Thanks Brian. Good to know Now to fix my other mistakes.

the only time I don’t get data, right now… is if I have logged off WD and then back on a few minutes later. It depends on your archive interval that is set on your VP console. there may be only 1 record there and the other is the time must be the same between the logger and your computer .

I would do this, archive download your data from your datalogger. I assume that you might still have weatherlink on your computer somewhere. then change the interval to something you can live with. I think Brian recommended 1 minute because you get a smoother curve on your graphs. Then after you have reset it , it will clear your archive interval . not too bad, because you have the data.

Then go back to Wdisplay after you are sure the com port is now open. and go to make sure the logger is set there also to the same interval on the console and the time is the same as well .

Make sure that in the change to the new version that everything is set up right on the logger and you should be finer than a frog’s hair split four ways.
