Version 10.0

Hi Brian

Just a thought, but maybe you should reserve ver 10.0 for Jan 1 2004.
Nice present for the new year. I guess you never invisioned WD evolving into what it has when you started. Keep up the GREAT work. I’ve been pretty quiet on the forum as everything has been working so well lately. I do have a question or 2 but I’ll save those for email rather than the forum.
Hope the family and farm are all doing well and I’m sure that you are looking forward to the warmer weather.

Cheers

MikeyM

9.96a is the final version

No more updates or anything?

i am still fixing bugs that show up where I can duplicate with peoples help.
after 4 years of missing out on things like fishing with the father in law when he visits, time with the kids, time with the wife, not doing the maintenenace on the farm that is needed ( i have fences that need fixing (the bull got into the neighbours), gettting angry emails or forum postings from people, its time to get my priorities right.
i have tried my hardest, but its not good enough for some people.
sorry.

Well good luck.

thanks
right now i am off to dig the garden for the 6 year old so she can plant her seeds she wants too (its spring here)

there is always VWS, that is still being developed, and is the market leader.

I completely understand… and feel for you Brian.

But are you serious? …is this for real? :frowning: :frowning:

Keith

:frowning:

I sure hope it’s not true.

Brian:

Take a BREAK - have some fun fishing with the Father-in-law and get some work done around the farm. Ops, almost forgot to tell you to spend some time with the wife and kids. We’ll all be waiting when you get back. Let the people that aren’t happy go over to VWS and see if they are any happier over there.

This has always been a GREAT product and it only gets better. The updates and upgrades aren’t always smooth, but Brian is always there to fix them. Remember you have to go througth the “construction zone” for weeks and or months before the road gets paved. Being from Pennsylvania USA we are well aware of that.

Brian, whatever the outcome is THANKS for everything that you have done !!!

Sit back, take a deep breath of that fresh Spring air, run around the yard with the kids, enjoy their garden and somewhere, sometime, someday you will hear WD calling you in the wind “Please come back”.

We’ll be waiting.

One VERY HAPPY CUSTOMER for quite a while.

Thanks again.

Cheers

MikeyM

thanks mikey, you are a very wise person
yeah, think of it like a handbrake on for month or 4

Great idea!

I fully agree and support your decision. WD has been working well for me for so long now, the product is stable and you even managed to defeat the ‘Beast’ (LaCrosse WS2010).

I have seen the times that you upload new versions of the program and it amazes me how you manage to find so many hours in the day. I have also felt for you when the ‘moaners’ got to you.

I have said before, with success comes other problems, some that have been so depressing to you. Others have made aditional contributions to help, but that was not the problem.

WD is, or was a hobby for you, a hobby that took over your life and your work and I am sure you lost a lot of the enjoyment.

WD does everything I want it too, and more. I can still expand my system using WD. I have no reasons to want to use VWS, or any other weather software.

I will be sorry if you decide to quit development permanantly, but I understand. Hopefully, as already mentioned, maybe a break of several months. Ignore the forum, even get Chris to ‘ban’ you from logging on for 4 to 6 months. There are many of us that have enough experience to help the newer users and those without the empathy, or understanding of your situation can go elsewhere. Believe me, they will still have the same problems, particularly when most of the problem is the person themselves.

You have all the email addresses for us registered users. Take the time off you need, then email everyone when you are ready to continue.

Enjoy your summer with the family. We’ll still be here…

Bob

I’ll have a bet on the side that when and if you come back, you will have not been able to leave WD alone and there changes and improvements to the first update you make at that time.

check this out guys:
http://www.weatherwatchers.org/bbs/wxstationboard/
and
http://www.weatherwatchers.org/bbs/wxstationboard/messages/394.html

in response to my posting about the SVG feature on that forum
that was posted by a user of weather display (check out the link he has posted) (i presume, maybe its not ,maybe its some sick vws person)

good thing I have put the hand brake on when you get a person who stabs you in the back like that…and a very long time user of WD too
the SVG feature is free to use.
Sure, Greg grabbed some code from the AWS system, but I dont see copyright anywhere in it…

I was afraid something like this would happen
I better join the witness protection program, LOL

I can understand where you are coming from and want to let you know
that you have done an amazing job !!! The service you give is above and beyond the expected.(not sure what you use for dairy herd management software but you need to give most of them with 3 or more full time paid programmers some lesions ) I know the type of work a dairy farm is and fully support your decision to stop but also hope its just an over deserved break. I think anyone who thinks you should not be able to spend time with family or go fishing is not worthy of owning this software. I think as everyone watches the pc software industry stealing copy written software is often a cry for damn I wish mine was that good and should consider it a compliment in my book and watch other people who try to duplicate what you have done. If you ever need a friend in the dairy industry to chat too feel free to drop me an email. Make sure you enjoy your self !!

Hi Brian ,
No hurry for version 10 . ( all’s running well for me ) 8)

your’ll never please everyone
take a break

sometimes it’s good to have a break to gather your thoughts .
have fun with the family .

rocketman

Hi Brian,
sorry to hear you want to give up,
WD is stable here, running WM-918
and never had any problems.
Have a rest, enjoy the family, go fishing.
Hope to see you again in the autum when the
nights getting longer.

well, give up is not quite correct
i am still here to fix bugs, answer Q’s on the forum, etc
i just need to slow things right down
got lots of fences to fix on the farm, spraying to do, etc etc
and when you upset too many people (3 so far), its time for a break
especuialy with the statements/accusations going on on other BBS about me (heck, the svg thing is free, so whats the big deal?): http://www.weatherwatchers.org/bbs/wxstationboard/

Brian,

I have said this before and will say it again. WD is a super piece of software with support second to none. It probably has a lot fewer bugs in it than most of microsoft software and costs a damn sight less! It is, however, not worth you ruining your life for. Take a good long break. There are plenty of knowlegable people on this forum who are more than happy to help.

Best wishes

Bob

Don’t let these minor things get you down. It should be flattering that others slam you once in a while because it means your getting “big” . If your software wasn’t threating others then you would never be mentioned.
As far as the graphic goes yep I grabbed it directly off a AWS site. Since when did images on the WWW become private property. That’s the beauty of the web. I simply downloaded the images and stuck an SVG engine behind it. Heck I wish they would come up with a better looking interface and it would be mine tomorrow. Anyway enjoy your spring and summer and we’ll continue to enjoy WD to it fullest. Thanks for the best dang weather software available and stop in and see us in the US real soon. Greg

Look on the bright side Brian and Greg, even the competition is smacking down “clovis”;

http://www.weatherwatchers.org/bbs/wxstationboard/messages/397.html

you know, its like someone has died, all the accolades pouring in!
(thanks guys, you are like a family too me!)
I am still alive and kicking
I have done some thinking today while fishing
I will make the current 9.96a 9.96b
and then have a beta version
and work on it in my spare time, less of a priority
You know, the wife has not made me slow down…she gave me flowers the other day for supporting her! (after counting all 3 kids were still alive), after coming home from a conference, LOL!

The things i still want to do:
finish a program for a japanese wind generation company (4 dallas 1 wire stations logged by a smalll program)
another mesomap
easy config/setup for the svg real time viewer
put all the graphing routines into one graph, and simplyfy, and expand the temperature scale by another 10 and reduce the wind scale by 10, and proportionaly scale the graph to the screen size
(this one will take me awhile!)
fix some reamaing bugs
a few other things
finish what i am adding to the linux version
real time mesomap (svg based, setup in wd, based on an existing wd mesompa setup)
not necassrily in that order!
