Version 1.06 suggestions

Now that you have 1.05 off your desk, lets start a new thread…

One option I would like to see added is the ability to control the alternating time/date display. I usually know the date. I just love watching the time increment every 4 seconds. That’s “LIVE”. :o But the date gets in the way.

Maybe 1 = time, 2 = date, 3 = alternate.

That should be quite straightforward. I’ll add it to the new list!

Ever since I installed the first version of WDL, i have sat and looked at it thinking aloud…wot a great piece of software…and think of things to add…and i can never think of any :?: …Your a star Julian… … (and Brian  !!).

Well I hope the basic functionality of WDL is fairly good now. What I’m working towards is giving users more ability to customise the look. That’s what a large part of the 1.05 upgrade is - enabling work to allow more flexibility. Any suggestions though are always welcome!

Julian

Julian,

Since you are asking for suggestions:

-I’d like to have the temperature bars be red.

That’s it.

You and Brian have made a neat bunch of software!

I concur!!

An excellent addition to the already comprehensive Weather Display…

Nothing comes near it in the market place…

A little suggestion from me…

A check marker on the outside of the gust dial showing maximum gust for the day (similar to the heat peaks)

Scaleable rain gauges would be nice…

I also agree that heat should get “redder” as it goes up

It’s hard to find improvements when it is so good already

Great work guys…

Also

If you could hotspot the metric bars and make them clickable to change the format (ie Centigrade to Fahrenheit etc)

You could then do away with the buttons…

Just a thought

Julian,

I think that having any of the temperature bars scalable would be a nice option.

For example, my WDL high and low set points are very close together right now and hard to read. I don’t ever have as much variation with highs and lows as the current scale shows (+4F to more than +104F).

Also, will the temp scales deal with -40F temps?

just an idea…

Thanks for the suggestions - they sound good. A few queries though - what range does everyone think the temperature scale should cover both in total and when scaled? What are your temperature extremes? Currently it covers -22 to +45 degC. Incidentally with Flash you have the option of right clicking on WDL and then zooming in.

I could make the units change if you click on the scale but would that be confusing or not obvious for users? With all the other gauges you click on the buttons so it would be non standard. Perhaps I should do both?

Marker on the outside of the maximum wind gust and average is a good idea. I’m not sure if maximum average wind is in the clientraw file so may have to ask Brian nicely to add it!

The temperature does get redder as it gets hotter but I’ll make it more so.

Julian

Julian,

My temp range is roughly -45C to +45C.

And I didn’t know that the temp bars changed color! That’s cool and meets my needs just fine. At what temps do they change color and to what color?

I had forgotten about the Flash zoom function.

I’m a happy WDL user. Thanks!

Bob

That’s some temperature range! (If you use the latest version of WD the graphs and max/min temps on your website should work properly). This is the current colour range of temperatures with 0deg C being between the green and blue sections.

Julian

-45 to + 45!!!

UK weather is minus 20 tops… plus 35 tops

I was more interested in getting some scale to the yearly rain gauge

It looks weird with the yearly scaled under the monthy…

Glad you like the gust marker idea…

Thoughts on loosing the button for clickable metrics?

I know it’s not PC to think in degrees F, but my temp range is about 20 F to 105 F - (obviously not in any one day). Two things I’d like to see: the temperature scale labeled at even 5 or 10 degree increments when F is selected; and the scale shift to include the daily max and min with about 10 degrees outside of these values (with a minimum range of about 40 degrees F). Yesterday, for example, with a min of 45 F and a max of 85 F, would look good on a scale of 35 to 95, while one overcast day last week with a min of 50 and a max of 65 would be best on a scale of 40 to 80.

Well, ok, maybe -45C to +45C IS too much of a temperature range to ask for. However, the record high for Fairbanks is +35C and the record low is -52C. I just want to make sure I can record the extremes when they happen.

Here’s a source for Fairbanks weather extremes:

Hi Julian,

At what temps does the temp bar change colour ? I must say, I have topped 26c today and yet my temp bar colour certainly does not indicate heat…if you look at my website, (if it’s working), you will see the colour that is being dislplayedat mo…

I know i have said it before, but thanks for a great program.

The temperatures change colour at -
-15
-10
-5
0
+5
+10
+15
+20
+25
+30
+35
+40

I’m thinking of scaling the temperatures so that they show a few degrees either side of the max and mins for the day. I might have to restrict the range a bit because of the non linearity of the farenheit scale but I should be able to do something.

Should we not remember that our websites are designed for all ages and differing degrees of knowledge? The local primary and middle schools use my wd live data to study uses of live data in the real world for IT studies, and weather for geography. We are all above average on our understandings of weather and terminology, but a lot of page views we receive are not from people with our knowledge. All of our wd live pages look real nice, but other people look at them as well as us!
