“any result other than -1 is a good sign but “U” as the com port name does not seem right”
What should the com port be for /dev/ttyUSB0? Maybe I didn’t configure the console properly.

/dev/ttyUSB0/
is what you should be setting the com port name in WD , via the manual entry ability
I went to the config.txt file and for the comport number I entered /dev/ttyUSB0 and I get this
trying to open comport 1 result → 3
*****Received count = -----------------------------> 65535
*****Received count = -----------------------------> 65535
*****Received count = -----------------------------> 65535
*****Received count = -----------------------------> 65535
*****Received count = -----------------------------> 65535
The config.txt says to use U for ttyUSB0. Is /dev/ttyUSB0 the correct way to fill in this field or is it something else? I would really like to make this work, but I am about ready to give up.
the problem now is with the version of Libc in use
change to use the libcomold.so in the deploy folder
(i.e delete the libcom.so file and rename the libcomold.so to libcom.so)
then restart consolewd
that should fix it
I renamed libcomold.so to libcom.so and I still get the same result.
trying to open comport 1 result → 3
*****Received count = -----------------------------> 65535
*****Received count = -----------------------------> 65535

Any other thoughts on how to make this work?
humm
i thought that would have been it! #-o
any ideas Yves?
Brian,
Do you have a USB Vantage Pro II to test with? If so, does it work? I am getting more and more stumped as to why this doesn’t work.
Hello all,
Made some progress with the vantage Pro Usb thanks to WeatherFront for sending me a VP pro2 USB.
If you run a kernel 2.6.23.12 or lesser you can download the driver from silab :Silicon Labs, and compile it.
just make sure you run ./configure before doing a make and make install (being root).
Reconnect the vP2 to your linux box and then check the modules cp210x is loaded (/sbin/lsmod) and /dev/ttyUSB0 is created.
I did not test with WD Linux, my objective being WdConsole.
with WdConsole, albeit not yet stable, I can see data flowing from VP to WdC,
For the ones running 2.6.24 or above be patient and hopeful, I am trying to port the cp210x to these versions. (a bit complicated)
I keep you posted.
Yves
Thanks for looking into this. I will try this with my unit this evening.
I finally was able to test this. I only ran it for about an hour, but it worked great. I had it sending CWOP data, but not wunderground or updating my website. That is a test for another time. Thanks for the great work. I am looking forward to ultimately seeing this rolled into the graphical version. Keep up the great work.
I have found a way to accommodate with the standard device driver Linux distribution offers. You might want to try the last version of WdQT Brian has updated with my modified version of the serial reader. However it seems we have some problem with serial datalogger, if you are using USB logger you should be safe.
To summarize : With a VP2 Usb data logger WdQt and consoleWd now works with kernel 2.6.24 and above with the standard cp2101.ko provided.
Yves
Hi
Yves and I have been working on some of these issues
try this update
http://www.weather-display.com/WeatherDQT.tar.gz
and there is a new consolewd update too
The updated QT version is working well. I am having problems though with getting the Wunderground and CWOP reports to work. I can’t seem to be able to set the port for CWOP and I am not sure what the Wunderground problem is yet. Thanks for the hard work. Once I am sure I can ditch Windows and Weatherlink I will be donating to the cause.
wunderground should work OK
check the case of the username/password
also check maybe its your firewall (even router) blocking it?
what port are you needed to sete to?
do you mean you cant change the port its set to ?
(I can fix that…that will be a bug with QT and the spinedit)
due to the large size of the linux and Mac versions uploads, they are going to blow my satellite internet data caps
so any donations to allow me to keep on updating is very welcome
It was a silly mistake on my part for the CWOP and Wunderground data. Running it last night I did get several crashes. I will try to document this a little better for you tonight if I get the time.
I just got this. I don’t know if it will help you or not…
