Since upgrading to latest version of WD and WDlive I get a reading of 1mm for annual rainfall, whereas the total for this month alone is 5.2mm. I have tried entering what I think is the correct total using 'Actions/view and correct totals ’ but the clientraw.txt file seems to get overwritten with 1mm again immediately.
I never had much luck using that method of correcting the rain totals. The way I am able to make adjustments is to right click on the main WD display in the rainfall area and select “Offsets and rainfall adjustment”. Seems to work ok for me but I don’t know if this method actually adjusts the log files. Editing the log files while WD is running probably isn’t a good idea.
Have you tried shutting down WD and then manually editing the 112004lg.txt log file? Maybe that would prevent WD from over-writing the file while you edit it…just a thought…
The log files previous to October have dissappeared and I cant find any old log files to copy from
Any idea what happened to the files? Have you turned on the backup feature in WD? [Setup – Control Panel – Data Backup]
What weather station are you using deekay? Visited your weather site, looks good. The WDL screen is very small when I view it, is that intentional or is my browser (Mozilla Firefox) causing me viewing problems again…
Dan, Thanks for the suggestions. I may copy the October log file and rename it as sept and set the rainfall into that and hope that the annual total will pick it up. A bit of a bodge, but better than nothing. Will try your suggestion of editing it with WD shut down and let you know tomorrow. I am using a HeavyWeather/LaCrosse 2300 system. I always seem to get problems after I upgrade.Guess what? Theres another upgrade tomorrow! I wonder if I can still type with my fingers crossed!?
Do you upload your station data to wunderground.com? If you lost your logfiles permanently you may be able to re-coup most of your data for the lost months. I would recommend turning on the data backup in WD as a precaution against future losses.
You can adjust the yearly rainfall amount using the method I described earlier.
hi
under setup, control panel, barometer offsets and rainfall
you should be able to set the year total there
enter the amount, if inches , then make sure inches tickec, if entering mm, then dont have inches ticked
note, dont put the units in the box
i.e for 53.5mm
enter
53.5
then click on set, next to that box
then click on yes to save settings
note, if the data originates from a server, then you need to update the rain totals on the server
Thanks both of you for your help. I hunted for an hour trying to find the option (which as you say has sorted the problem out) to change the annual settings. Do you think it would be possible to get someone who knows their way round the program to go through and put together all the disparate functions which are so difficult to locate currently as they have presumeably
