Tide Graphics - time to next tide

hi

I have put the offset in my dyslexia is getting the better of me

could you please recheck the web page for me
http://www.weather-above.com/tideprediction1.html
appreciate your help

mick

Hi Mick,
While it looks OK, there is still a problem as it says your next tide is 2:51am when the next tide is 2:02am … you’re having the same issue as jossiejojo as before you applied the -12 offset it said the next tide was 2:51pm so applying the -12 offset just changed it from PM to AM … I’ll need to look deeper into this … cheers

hi everybody

I have got mine set with just a couple minutes out

Hi Mick,

Well done !!

What did you do to your setup to get it to work as josiejojo may also benefit?
Cheers

Ah yes well spotted…its currently jumping the next high tide and I think displaying the one this evening (10.03PM) as if its this morning…actually now having tried other offsets (all one hour differences) I’m not any better off…if set to a negative offset I get lots of plausible tides (ie tides within the next 6 hours) but none of them are recognisable as having been derived from the tideprediction_html…if I set a positive offset I get the implausible tides (predicting eg 18 hours ahead)…

Its q confusing…

Looks like Mick has his sorted … his is only out by two minutes … hopefully he will give you some clues when he comes online
Cheers

hi

I changed the time setting in the tide program, please see image of the settings I am using in the script
tide program settings

there is another setting in weather display that allows you to alter the time for the output of the tide forecast
I’m not sure if this is actually working , I presume the idea is to get the output closer to the time of the tide forecasts
which you compare with met tide forecasts for your area

hi everybody

I thought I solved the problem soon as the next day comes the times go wrong again

I’m wondering if there’s something wrong somewhere in the script

is there any chance you could have a look to see if it can be amended

mick :frowning:

All very strange…

But the other issue is what happens as each day passes and whether the script can stay in synch…

Mike youve made quite a lot of changes to the settings.

Presumably that 22 minutes adjustment in Weather Display adds 22mins to the tide times displayed on the tideprediction_html? ie it shouldnt affect Ian’s script…

Similarly I dont understand why the offset of -12.3 should work. Surely these are timezone offsets which should vary by whole hours…

It would be good if Ian could share his other preference settings for the tideprediction_html in weather display…I wonder if theres something else there that needs to be matched up…

Attached are screen shots of my WX32TIDE configs … I am running version 4.7

Maybe you should try all the preferences I have, apart from your local port obviously.

There was one very strange thing that I noticed while setting this up, but it only affected the actual predicted tide times. Australia is 10 hours ahead of GMT, however you will see in my time offset I had to put in negative 10 hours … As I say this only affected the tide tables displayed and I needed -10 to ensure that my tidepredict tables matched the actual local tides. The problem you guys are having is that my script is skipping the current days tide and is jumping to the next day.

Hopefully you might find one of the time/date preferences I have set is different to yours?

Regarding the settings I use my script setup, they are the default ones as found in the published script.

I have written to the fellow that wrote this script asking his advise, I’ll fill you in if changing the prefernces doesn’t fix the problem, please let me know how it goes,
Thanks
Ian

Thanks Ian

The thing that jumps out is that you have the ‘short’ time and date format checked in most instances…

Ive tried this with my setup and  yippee  it seems to be working with no time offset

http://www.rupertwhite.co.uk/weatherstation/timetonexttide2.php

fingers crossed it continues to be happy after the next tide change…

Well done, let’s hope that was the issue … if so I’ll amend the instructions
Cheers

hi everybody

I’ve alter the settings to short time and set the date format to 24-hour

forecast tide time
Thursday 04-16
Sunrise 0620, Sunset 2017
Moonrise 0252, Moonset 1018
Low Tide: 0415 2.8
High Tide: 1038 6.2
Low Tide: 1635 3.2
High Tide: 2302 6.3

the script time for the low tide is 4:15pm

20 minutes difference between the forecast, I will leave it at this setting
and wait for the 2302 to see how many minutes the script is out for this

I’m hoping that it’s going to be consistent so all I need to do is just the offset time in the script which is set at -12

hi everybody

I’ve adjusted the offset time in the script to -11.6

the time is spot on the forecast

Another update from Cornwall

The tide has turned now and the script is correctly showing the next high tide as 10.51 so I’m satisfied its working OK…

Well done guys, I’ll update the instructions re using short date,
Cheers!
